Today we’d like to introduce you to Miriam Rodriguez.
Hi Miriam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Pop Pop Soda Shop started as a simple idea fueled by creativity, community, and a desire to build something of my own. In the beginning, I was serving drinks from a small setup with coolers and a folding table, showing up to local events and pop ups with no guarantees except my work ethic and a belief that people would love what we were creating.
What began as a side hustle quickly turned into something much bigger. The response from the community was overwhelming. People did not just love the drinks, they loved the experience, the nostalgia, and the connection. That support pushed me to take the leap into a mobile trailer, and then another, and eventually into building a brand that continues to grow beyond what I originally imagined.
Today, Pop Pop Soda Shop is more than just dirty sodas. It is a community driven business that partners with schools, small businesses, and local events. Giving back has always been a core part of our mission, whether that means donating a portion of sales, supporting fundraisers, or simply showing up for our community when they need us.
As a woman in business, the journey has not been easy, but it has been incredibly rewarding. I have learned to trust myself, adapt quickly, and embrace growth even when it feels uncomfortable. Pop Pop is proof that you can start small, stay authentic, and still build something impactful.
This business represents passion, perseverance, and the belief that when you pour into your community, it pours right back into you.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has definitely not been a smooth road, and one of the biggest challenges has been navigating seasonal slowdowns, especially during the winter months. As a mobile, outdoor based business, colder weather directly impacts sales, scheduling, and visibility. There are weeks when events slow down, foot traffic drops, and income becomes less predictable, which can be stressful as a business owner.
Winter has forced me to become more strategic, whether that means budgeting carefully, finding creative ways to stay relevant during the off season, or planning ahead for busier months. It has also required a lot of patience and resilience, trusting that the slower seasons are temporary and part of the bigger picture.
Beyond weather, balancing growth, family life, and the day to day demands of running a business has been challenging at times. However, each obstacle has helped strengthen my problem solving skills and has made me a more confident and adaptable leader.
These challenges have reminded me that success is not linear, and that perseverance and flexibility are just as important as passion.
We’ve been impressed with POP POP SODA SHOP, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Pop Pop Soda Shop is a mobile beverage business specializing in handcrafted dirty sodas, lemonades, energy drinks, and specialty drinks with a nostalgic twist. While our drinks are a big part of what we do, the experience and sense of community are what truly set us apart.
We are known for fun, customizable drinks, themed menus, and a welcoming atmosphere at every event. Pop Pop is deeply community-focused, frequently partnering with schools, local businesses, and organizations to support events and fundraisers.
What I am most proud of is how the brand has grown organically while staying true to its values. Pop Pop Soda Shop is built on creativity, connection, and the belief that small businesses can make a meaningful impact.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I attended NPTI to study personal training and nutrition. While I did not complete the program, the experience gave me a strong foundation in health, wellness, and discipline, and it played a role in shaping my entrepreneurial mindset.
