Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlene Okojie.
Hi Marlene, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Marlene Okojie, and I am a proud Congolese-American, a mother of two boys, an entrepreneur, and an IT professional. I was born and raised in the Democratic Republic of Congo before immigrating to the United States during my teenage years—a journey shaped by faith and resilience. God’s guidance has illuminated each chapter of my life, giving me strength and direction along the way.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s in Applied Information Technology from Towson University. I am fluent in French, Swahili, and English. I’m passionate about lifelong learning, philanthropy, and advocating for diversity in STEM. While I’ve built a successful career in tech, my heart has always belonged to entrepreneurship and fashion.
Le Petit Gentleman was born out of both love and necessity. As a mom of boys, I saw first-hand how limited the options were for elegant and unique boys’ suits. I wanted to offer something bold, luxurious, and comfortable—pieces that let young boys feel seen, confident, and special. Le Petit Gentleman (French for “Little Gentleman”) is dedicated to reimagining boys’ formalwear for life’s most memorable occasions. The brand is deeply inspired by my sons and rooted in the belief that we’re raising kings: future leaders, changemakers, and dapper gentlemen. For me, style is not superficial—a boy’s clothing is a reflection of discipline, confidence, and self-respect. Through Le Petit Gentleman, I strive to empower young boys to carry themselves with elegance and pride
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has seldom been smooth, but it has always been worthwhile. Entrepreneurship is stretching—it demands resilience, discipline, faith, and an ongoing willingness to innovate. My greatest challenges have included finding my ideal clients, sourcing high-quality materials, building effective marketing strategies, and mastering e-commerce and social media.
Balancing motherhood, a full-time career, and a growing business has been anything but easy. These challenges, however, taught me to be resourceful and unafraid to ask for help. They pushed me to celebrate every small win and to treat setbacks as opportunities—moments to pivot, to sharpen my skills, and to grow.
As an immigrant, I also had to navigate a new culture and education system, which wasn’t always easy. Yet, with each hurdle, I’ve discovered resilience and faith I didn’t know I had. I’ve learned that clarity of vision is everything: knowing who you serve, why you serve them, and how you add value makes the journey sustainable. Looking back, I see every struggle as a stepping stone that made me wiser, stronger, and more rooted in my purpose. This journey has also deepened my spiritual walk—I’ve learned that real breakthroughs come when you bet on yourself and, above all, trust God.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Le Petit Gentleman?
Le Petit Gentleman is a children’s fashion brand that celebrates elegance, confidence, and cultural pride in young boys. We specialize in bold, stylish, and impeccably crafted suits and accessories designed for kids to stand out during life’s most special moments—birthdays, red carpets, graduations, and more. In just a short time, we’ve become the go-to brand for kid models, celebrity children, and families who value both luxury and comfort. To us, every piece is more than clothing; it’s a statement of confidence and individuality, helping boys feel unique and unstoppable.
What are you most proud of?
My greatest pride is that Le Petit Gentleman is more than a brand—it’s a movement. We work to inspire confidence, creativity, and boldness in young boys (and even the girls who love wearing our suits!). A milestone moment for me was in 2021, when we became the first Congolese-American women-owned kids’ fashion brand to showcase at Moscow Fashion Week: New Kids. I am so grateful for the talented photographers, stylists, influencers, and supportive parents who have all become part of our story. Most rewarding, though, are the messages from parents sharing how our suits make their children beam with joy—that’s what keeps me going and makes every late night worth it.
What sets you apart?
What sets me apart is that I don’t compete—I create. I believe that my perspective and creativity are gifts from God, and that what is meant for me is uniquely mine. My vision, purpose, and authenticity guide every decision, whether in business, family, or life. I strive to remain grounded, to let my light shine, and to uplift others through my journey. Le Petit Gentleman is not just a brand for me—it’s a calling and a greater purpose: empowering children and families to embrace confidence, style, and elegance in their lives.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my fondest memories is from my childhood in Congo. I attended a private school where uniforms were not required, so fashion was a daily expression of identity and joy. My father often returned from his international travels with suitcases full of clothes for my siblings and me—the excitement, laughter, and togetherness felt like Christmas morning every time. It wasn’t just about the clothes—it was about family, love, and joyful connection. In hindsight, I see how those experiences planted the seeds of my entrepreneurial spirit and love for fashion. Those moments, filled with hope and possibility, eventually blossomed into Le Petit Gentleman.
