Meet Malcolm Compton of Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Malcolm Compton.

Hi Malcolm, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
With over a decade of immersive travel to the vibrant island of Curaçao, rich in history, culture, and Carnival energy, we decided to bring the full island experience — and then some! Winter Soulstice Curaçao Weekend, an unforgettable celebration of music, culture, connection, and Carnival was created to bring awareness to a relatively new place for American tourists. Whether a solo traveler or coming with a group, we craft a curated, all-inclusive style getaway designed just for our customers.

Our focus was always contributing to the local economy of Curacao and providing our customers with a Carnival-themed experience and also tailoring vacations with other guests that like to venture out and see more of the island for themselves.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. The first year of our trips, we managed to get about 40+ people to attend the weekend event. For a first time promotion, we were excited to see what the next year’s trip would bring. Unfortunately, Covid lockdowns after our 1st trip forced us to cancel the next year’s trip and focus on the following year.

That next trip in 2022, we managed to secure the same amount of people, but some of the local businesses we used did not provide the level of service we promised.

We took another year off to retool and develop stronger relationships with our local partners, but during that time, we were being contacted by random people looking for that Curacao experience. So, we started branching off into the concierge aspect of it. Providing individual tours and connecting tourists to experiences most tourists would not be privy to.

As of today, we are planning for 2027’s carnival, as well as continuing our concierge side of the business to support individual and group travel to Curacao.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in providing travel and concierge services to individuals that are either interested or have booked a trip to Curacao. From housing to transportation to activities, we tailor the experience based on the customer’s needs and budget.

I guess I would be known for the guy that practically lives in Curacao. Although I am a Baltimore native and this is my home, I normally travel to the island roughly 6-6 times a year to maintain my business connections and develop new ones. There are times where I am paid to accompany my customers on trips to give them a more personalized experience.

I think what sets me apart from others is my approach to traveling and the relationships I build while there.

Any big plans?
I think my future goals are to expand the business and continue to develop positive relationships with my customers and the local businesses on the island.

The concierge portion of the business has taken off over the past year, but I have never abandoned the group trips during Curacao.

The main goal is to bring more awareness to the island, the culture and the local economy.
