Meet Maggie King of York Pennsylvania

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maggie King.

Hi Maggie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey into the world of bridal beauty has been a full-circle story—one rooted in love, creativity, and generations of remarkable women who shaped who I am today. Growing up surrounded by four generations of strong, graceful, and nurturing women, I was taught not just how to feel beautiful, but how to live with grit, compassion, integrity, and an unshakable belief in aiming higher.
Even as a middle schooler, I felt the pull toward fashion and beauty. While I didn’t have sisters of my own, I was always the go-to girl for hair, makeup, and styling advice. I’ve always been a girls’ girl at heart—deeply fulfilled by watching other women light up with confidence, knowing I played a small part in making them feel radiant.
My hands-on experience started early, working at a high-end bridal boutique in my hometown. There, I discovered how meaningful it is to serve brides and their loved ones during life’s most cherished milestones. I followed my dream to become a fashion designer, studying and growing within communities of powerful, creative women. That journey led me to work weddings in Philadelphia during college, then on to a corporate career at Gucci in Las Vegas—all while building my own bridal business on the side.
In 2014, I returned home to Pennsylvania and fully committed to my passion. I opened a dedicated space for bridal trials and beauty services and began growing what is now MKUP The Beauty Studio, an incredible team of bridal hair and makeup artists, proudly serving Central PA and the tri-state area.
Over the past 14 years, I’ve worked with thousands of brides, each one unique and special. My philosophy has never changed: treat every client like she’s my own sister, best friend, daughter, or mother. I bring my whole heart into making sure your personality shines through, and that you feel your most confident, beautiful self on your wedding day.
Today, I’m excited to bring our artistry and warmth to destination weddings across the U.S. and abroad. Whether you’re saying “I do” by the ocean, in the mountains, or in a faraway city you adore—my team and I are here to support you, empower you, and celebrate you every step of the way.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Expanding a business and learning to trust a team has never been easy for me. Delegating, hiring, and relying on others can be challenging. But I’ve been incredibly blessed with some of the best employees—several of whom have been with me for over 11 years.
From the beginning, I’ve worked hard to instill strong values, work ethic, and a commitment to customer satisfaction. I believe that’s what truly sets our team apart. Every member has been carefully selected, trained, and aligned with our mission. Most importantly, they genuinely care about the people we serve—and that makes all the difference.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At the heart of our destination bridal beauty experience is one belief: your wedding day should feel like you — unmistakably, unapologetically, beautifully you.
We’re not here for the trending pick. We’re here for the right one.
Our mission is to redefine how brides discover their beauty team — not by popularity, but by purposeful alignment. Because your wedding deserves more than a quick choice. It deserves a curated connection.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
In my opinion, the beauty industry is only going to continue growing.
Cosmetics have become a multi-billion dollar market, with influencers playing a major role in how products and services are promoted. But while trends and visibility have evolved, one truth remains: the average woman may not have the skillset or artistry required for hair and makeup application—and that’s why professional services will always be in demand.
When it comes to weddings specifically, I don’t believe in rigid trends. Bridal beauty is deeply personal. It’s less about what’s “in” and more about how each bride envisions herself on her wedding day. That’s why it’s so important for brides to find an artist or stylist whose aesthetic aligns with their vision—someone who can elevate their natural beauty and bring their dream look to life.
