Today we’d like to introduce you to Lincoln Cui.
Hi Lincoln, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started with me/Lincoln walking the dog down the street in Fells Point in early Oct 2022..
The place where Broadway Hotpot & Bar current is, used to be Dog Watch Tavern and they always have a wreath of dog biscuit on their door, thus my husky Sky makes frequent stop-bys. But that day, the dog treat wreath is gone, and instead replaced by a “Vacancy” sign. Thinking of how often my friends and I travel around this area, and how much foot traffic i see around Fells, i decided to text my friends and say “let’s open a restaurant here”…
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Two years of hard work felt like a blink of eyes. We renovated the whole place from head to toe, put in new customized tables/seats/bar stools, built commercial sized fridge on the second floor, imported authentic broth bases from China and improved our formulas again and again and again until we are finally happy with what we have now…
Lots of equipment was way too big and we were hand moving everything to save cost, so it was a huge struggle to carry them in…
And for the broth bases selection, we have done countless tasting events with friends and family, to decide on what works best for our local communities.
We’ve been impressed with Broadway Hotpot & Bar, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Broadway Hotpot & Bar, is the first authentic Chinese hotpot in the Baltimore City! At the heart of Chinese culinary tradition, hotpot is more than just a meal — it’s a communal experience that brings friends and family together. With a rich history dating back over a thousand years, Chinese hotpot features a simmering pot of broth, where you can cook a variety of fresh ingredients like sliced meats, vegetables, seafood, and tofu to your perfection.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Family gathering altogether once or twice a year around a round table and enjoying hotpot together. Mom and Dad would let me and my sisters pick all the cooked meat first because we are impatient and they would cook more and more for all of us as we chat and laugh throughout the nights. Memories stay vivid after all these years and through all the steams rising from the hotpot.
