Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Zimmerman.
Hi Laura, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For years, I was thriving—or so it looked on the outside.
I had built a successful career as a Nurse Anesthetist. I was proud of the work I did in operating rooms, managing complex cases, and being part of life-saving teams. But behind the scenes, I was exhausted. I was dealing with crushing fatigue, brain fog, night sweats, mood swings, and a constant feeling that something just wasn’t right.
I did what most women do—I pushed through. I told myself it was just stress, just life, just part of getting older. I leaned on caffeine, over-functioned, and kept showing up… until my body started screaming louder than I could ignore.
I went to doctors. I ran labs. And time after time, I heard, “Everything looks normal.” “You just have little kids.”
But I didn’t feel normal. I felt like a shell of myself and knew that something had to change so my husband and physician lead of our practice decided we would take matters into our own hands.
That was my turning point. I realized that if I was going to truly heal, I had to look at things differently. So I did what I’ve always done when faced with a challenge—I went deep. I started studying functional medicine, hormone health, gut health, inflammation, nervous system regulation—all the areas of medicine that weren’t getting enough attention in traditional care.
And as I pieced together the puzzle of my own health, I felt my energy come back. My clarity returned. I started sleeping through the night again. I began feeling like me again.
But I also got angry—because I realized how many other women were out there struggling just like I had been. Women who were told they were “fine.” Women who were given Band-Aid fixes or brushed off completely. Women who were dismissed.
That’s when I knew it was time to do something more. Re-Balance Health and Wellness was born. Darin and Icreated Re-Balance Health & Wellness because we believe every woman deserves answers, support, and care that actually gets to the root of the problem. Our practice is built around the idea that healing is possible when you treat the whole person—not just a lab result.
We take a functional, integrative approach to hormone balance, gut health, metabolic function, and nervous system regulation. Our programs are deeply personalized because no two women are the same—and your care shouldn’t be either.
This practice was never about just “fixing” symptoms. It was about creating a place where women feel heard, seen, and empowered in their health journeys. What started as my own struggle has become my purpose. Today, I get to work with women every single day who are ready to take their health into their own hands—and I’m honored to be their guide.
Whether it’s a woman dealing with unexplained weight gain, fatigue, insomnia, or burnout—I see her. I was her. And now, I get to help her find her way back to balance.
This work lights me up. It gives me hope. And most of all, it reminds me that sometimes our biggest challenges become the doorway to our greatest impact.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not even close to being a smooth road! It hasn’t been all butterflies and rainbows—that’s for sure.
When we first decided to open Re-Balance, I truly had no idea what I was getting into. As a seasoned clinician, taking care of people comes naturally to me. I know how to support patients, read labs, troubleshoot symptoms, and guide people toward healing. That part—the actual work with clients—is my passion and my comfort zone.
But owning and running a business? That was an entirely different story.
I was used to showing up for work, doing my job well, and then going home at the end of the day. I had never had to think about things like marketing, operations, SOPs, KPIs, website design, the dozens of accounts we would have to hold, ordering, the list could go on… it was all brand new, and honestly, overwhelming at times. There’s so much nuance and decision-making that comes with entrepreneurship, and I was totally unprepared for that piece of it.
I’ve had to learn how to lead not just in a clinical setting, but as a business owner. That’s meant learning to trust myself in new ways, leaning on mentors, and being okay with getting it wrong sometimes.
And then there’s the reality of working with my husband, Darin. We have a super strong relationship, and I’m so grateful for the way we support each other—but let’s be real: owning a business with your spouse comes with its own set of challenges. We’ve had to learn how to communicate differently, how to separate work from home life (as much as you can), and how to navigate two strong personalities with different ways of doing things.
But even with all the bumps and steep learning curves, I wouldn’t change a thing. Every challenge has made me stronger, more resilient, and more grounded in why I started this in the first place.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Re-Balance Health & Wellness is a functional medicine practice focused on helping people feel like themselves again. We specialize in hormone optimization, gut health, metabolic support, inflammation, nervous system regulation and lifestyle medicine. Most of the clients we work with have been dismissed or told “everything looks normal,” even though they feel anything but normal. That’s where we come in.
What makes Re-Balance different is our deeply personalized approach. We don’t do one-size-fits-all care. Every person’s health story is unique, and we take the time to really understand what’s going on beneath the surface. We use advanced diagnostics, in-depth consultations, and a whole-body lens to get to the root causes of symptoms—not just manage them.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how real and relationship-based our practice is. This isn’t a sterile clinic experience. We are high-touch, high-connection, and truly invested in the clients we serve. Our clients feel seen, heard, and supported—and that’s what I’m most proud of. We built this brand on integrity, clinical excellence, and compassion.
There are many different ways to join our practice-We offer lab consultations for people that just want to get a deep dive into their health. Most often though we do 3-12 month programs to help people achieve optimal wellness and help them reclaim energy, clarity, and confidence with a focus on longevity and sustainable lifestyle changes. We utilize in-depth lab testing, ongoing support, education, and truly individualized plans. We also provide bio-identical hormone replacement when appropriate, peptide support, metabolic health data, and so much more.
At the end of the day, I want readers to know this: if you feel like something is off, you’re not crazy—and you’re not alone. There is a way to feel better, and we’re here to help you get there with real answers and real support.
What makes you happy?
In my personal life my family brings me so much joy. I love letting my kids be feral and enjoy being kids. My husband is the best spouse and dad out there and I really hit the jackpot with him. So family first, always.
In the practice what makes me happy is seeing the transformations in our clients. It is truly incredible the difference just a few months and small changes can make in someone’s life. The best thing I hear is “I feel like me again.”
