Today we’d like to introduce you to Lady Reddzz.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, I remember riding down Central Avenue in the backseat of my father’s van listening to the Quiet Storm on WHUR 96.3 FM. I fell in love with not only the music but also the way on-air personalities interacted with listeners and how they used their voices to tell stories – little did I know that would be me one day.
In high school I was a contributing writer and editor for the school’s newspaper. While in undergrad at Howard University, I majored in Communications minoring in Radio, TV and Film.
Howard is where my dreams became reality.
While in undergrad, I wrote entertainment reports for our student radio station WHBC 96.3. Later, I became an on-air intern at WHUR 96.3 where I read liners and promos. It was such a surreal moment to be interning at the same place I listened to in the backseat of my father’s van as a little girl. In undergrad I also interned at WPFW 89.3. My senior year I became a proud member of Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated! I graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2014 at the top 15% of my class.
One year after graduation, I was hired part-time at WPGC 95.5 as a promotions assistant for the “Street Team”. I enjoyed being out in the community interacting with listeners. While at WPGC, I shadowed Sunni “And The City” learned how to show prep and run the board. Sometimes I would just sit in the studio with Poet or DJ Flexx and observe, the goal was to soak up everything. My radio career took off from here!
I joined the Urban One Radio One family in 2018 where I began producing shows part-time for John Monds on Majic 102.3 FM as well as AL B Sure!. In 2020, I landed my first full-time radio role as the Executive Producer of the syndicated QuickSilva Show with Dominique Da Diva on 93.9 WKYS. I was also a full-time Associate Producer at SiriusXM on the Big 12 Network as well.
Currently, I am the Executive Producer of the Dominique Da Diva Show weekdays 3-7pm on 93.9 WKYS and Baltimore’s 92Q Jams. You can catch me LIVE on your radio 1 to 4 pm each and every Sunday on 93.9 WKYS giving you all things entertainment, trending topics, local news and more!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is not always a smooth road and I never expected it to be that way.
Who knew I would be still working my high school job at Petsmart after college all while chasing my dreams of working in radio. I never gave up, I applied to every radio and tv station in DC, Maryland and Virginia. I was even willing to relocated to California or Atlanta if I had to, that’s how hungry I was and still am. I’ve always been determined to live my dream even if it was delayed. I learned that growth can be uncomfortable so if you aren’t willing to be uncomfortable, you aren’t willing to grow!
I ignored everyone who tried to persuade me to just get any ole job because I had a plan and I wasn’t going to allow anyone or anything to get in my way. Once I set my mind on something, it’s mine, it’s just a matter of when.
One year after my college graduation I landed my first part-time role in radio as a Promotions Assistant at WPGC 95.5. The rest is history!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Currently I am the Executive Producer of the Dominique Da Diva Show on 93.9 WKYS and Baltimore’s 92.3. I have own radio show each Sunday 1 to 4 pm on 93.9 WKYS. Each Sunday I dive into all things trending topics inside of my entertainment report “Reddzz Rundown”. I discuss local news inside my segment “DMV Backyard News” and if you are looking for some inspiration to start your week off the right way, I have that for you as well inside of my segment “Reddzz Reminder”. I also open the phone lines for callers to chime in on the topic of the day.
I truly am proud of how far I’ve come, a little girl growing up listening to the same station I now work at is truly a blessing. I never allowed the outside chatter to deter me from accomplishing my goals. I just let those people talk, I’ll always do me. I’m proud of all the genuine relationships I’ve built along the way. Kashon Powell, my former Program Director and VP saw something in me and gave me a chance so I’ll always be grateful for her!
I specialize in using my voice and creativity to allow my listeners to escape reality. I want them to feel like we are a family so that is why I affectionately say “hey friend”. I show up as my authentic self “Lady Reddzz” each and every day, which is something that can’t be duplicated!
How do you think about happiness?
The small things in life make me happy. Each morning I wake up blessed with another opportunity to walk in my purpose and chase my dreams. Using my voice on air and creating content makes me happy. I find joy in making others feel seen and heard. I love spending time with family and friends. I enjoy traveling and going out to eat. I’m a true foodie! Growth makes me happy!
