Hi Key, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I’ve always had a love for makeup. I started off wearing lip gloss & experimented with different products & looks as I got older. As I got more comfortable with new techniques (through practicing on myself) I started venturing out & doing makeup on others. I started doing makeup on others in 2014 (KeyOnTheBeat Now Key Nicolé Beauty Was Born). You know it’s real when people trust you to enhance their own beauty! I was so excited! From the first time, I placed a brushed on someone else’s face finished & saw how pleased they were with the look I knew being in an MUA was the path for me. Fast forward to 2017 I launched my own cosmetics line “COCKEYNESS COSMETICS” which featured matte liquid lipsticks & handmade all-natural lip scrubs which was one of the most exciting experience ever! I made my sales goal the next day after I launched! Now I’m a full-time pro makeup artist & I love every bit of it!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Definitely hasn’t been A smooth road! As A entrepreneur you have to be prepared for anything because anything can happen. In the process of me starting my cosmetics line, I lost A lot of money through trial & error but sometimes you have to lose to gain. There has also been slow days, weeks, & months & when you are your own boss that can discourage you & make you question if you should continue doing this. When the pandemic first hit I wasn’t taking clients for A while that put A strain on things financially for me but I took that time to plan & execute my comeback.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am A pro makeup artist. I specialize in natural & soft glam. I’m most proud of the fact that I never gave up & persevered through everything that has been thrown my way. What sets me apart from others is I’ve never tried to conform to the “norms” I’ve always been creative in life but especially when it comes to makeup, with my techniques & how I use products. I’m a firm believer that no matter how many people are doing what you are they’ll NEVER be able to do it like you because only you can do that.
