Meet Kelli Bigelow of B Ventures LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelli Bigelow.

Hi Kelli , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Rooted in Legacy, Rising with Purpose: My Journey in Baltimore

Baltimore isn’t just where I live — it’s where I was raised, rooted, and called to serve. I’m a legacy Baltimorean, born into a family of civic leaders, educators, and everyday heroes who helped shape this city’s social and cultural landscape. From an early age, I understood that my life had to be in service to something greater — to people, to place, and to purpose.

My journey began in the arts. I studied dance and performing arts through programs at the Baltimore School for the Arts and Towson University’s summer dance intensives. I later graduated from Walbrook High School with a Performing Arts Dance and College Prep focus. Even as an adult, I’ve continued to expand my artistry — including studying Afro-Cuban movement and cultural dance in Cuba in 2019. The discipline, creativity, and emotional intelligence I developed through the arts laid the foundation for everything I’ve done since — in leadership, in advocacy, and in service.

I believe deeply in the power of strong performing arts programs in public schools and community spaces. These programs saved my life and shaped my voice. They provide safe havens, cultural continuity, and platforms for expression — especially for Black and Brown children who are too often silenced or overlooked. I continue to champion access to dance and arts education as a vital part of community development and mental wellness.

Professionally, I’ve spent more than 25 years in technology — leading IT project management, help desk operations, and federal contracts with precision and care. I hold certifications in Agile, ITIL, Security+, and HDI, and I bring a holistic, people-centered approach to every team and system I manage.

When the pandemic disrupted my federal contracting work, I pivoted. I became a licensed real estate agent with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Homesale Realty and focused on helping individuals and families — especially in Baltimore’s legacy Black neighborhoods — secure housing, build wealth, and stay rooted in place.

I also founded B. Ventures LLC, which blends my experience in IT, real estate, and community organizing into a platform for service and innovation. I’m currently serving as the Constituency Services and Community Liaison for Delegate Sean Stinnett in Maryland’s 41st District, where I help residents connect with resources, navigate policy, and engage in civic life.

Through it all, I remain grounded in community. I’ve created wellness-based initiatives that I am looking for funding- like Rhythms and Roots: A Community Plant and Music Swap, which brings neighbors together around joy, culture, and healing. I’m developing a digital platform to support neighborhood associations with tools, training, and visibility. And I continue to dream of opening a community arts and wellness center that will nurture both the body and the spirit.

My journey has had its share of challenges — personal, financial, and professional. But like dance, life has taught me to stay in motion, to breathe through the hard parts, and to never lose my rhythm.

I’m proud to be from Baltimore. I’m proud to give back. And I’m just getting started

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I keep feeling like I am rebooting amd pivoting ,often… a common feeling for Black Women. Aging, Taking care of parents, having your livelihood negatively impacted due to politics, cost of living and etching a city you love ne mismanaged and crumbling in front of you. Its hard to find and maintain a sense of stability

B. Ventures LLC
Prepare. Perform. Produce.
Empowering Communities. Bridging Innovation. Rooted in Legacy.

At B. Ventures LLC, our mission is simple yet powerful: Prepare. Perform. Produce. We prepare communities with knowledge, perform with integrity and creativity, and produce real, lasting change. Everything we do is about building capacity, lifting voices, and fostering ownership in Baltimore’s legacy neighborhoods.

I founded B. Ventures during the height of the pandemic in 2021, drawing from my 25+ years of experience in IT, public service, real estate, and the performing arts. What began as a federal contracting firm soon evolved into something broader, bolder, and more community-centered. Today, B. Ventures is a multidisciplinary community innovation company, connecting the dots between technology, real estate, civic education, and cultural programming.

We offer a suite of services designed to uplift and sustain:

IT & Help Desk Services – Grounded in my deep experience in technical project management and operations, we deliver reliable support to public agencies, nonprofits, and mission-driven entities.

Real Estate Consulting – As a licensed real estate professional, I help clients—especially in Black neighborhoods—navigate homeownership, land use, and generational wealth-building.

Civic Engagement & Policy Education – From supporting elected officials to teaching communities how to engage with local government, we develop tools for informed, empowered advocacy.

Community Events & Cultural Strategy – We produce healing and high-impact gatherings like Rhythms and Roots: A Community Plant and Music Swap, blending wellness, music, and movement to connect neighbors.

Digital Platform Development – We’re building virtual infrastructure to help neighborhood associations and grassroots groups operate with the same efficiency and visibility as major institutions.

As a Black woman-owned, HUBZone-certified business, B. Ventures is committed to equity, excellence, and innovation. We don’t just provide services — we build systems that honor history, reflect community needs, and drive collective progress.

B. Ventures LLC is more than a company — it’s my offering back to Baltimore. It’s a living expression of my legacy, and a blueprint for the future I believe in.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Absolutely — and I’ll start with this: lead with purpose, not just ambition. I’ve always had a talent for coming up with creative, impactful ideas — whether it’s a community-centered event, a policy strategy, or a new business model. But those ideas don’t go anywhere unless you’re in spaces where people can see, nurture, and challenge your vision.

For me, successful networking has never been about trying to “fit in” — it’s about showing up as my full self. I know I’m a connector. I see possibilities where others see problems. When I lean into that, I naturally attract mentors and partners who believe in innovation, impact, and collective growth.

One thing that’s worked well for me is showing my value before asking for anything. Whether I’m attending a community event or entering a policy space, I listen first, observe the gaps, and offer what I can — sometimes it’s an idea, other times it’s a connection or resource. That energy builds trust and mutual respect, which is the foundation of all meaningful mentorship and collaboration.

I also believe in the power of peer mentorship. Some of my best collaborators are people who, like me, are building something bold from the ground up. We push each other, share game, and hold each other accountable. I don’t wait for people to “discover” me — I create spaces, initiate conversations, and build the table if it doesn’t already exist.

And finally, I stay open. The most powerful connections often come from unexpected places — not just traditional networking events, but from community meetings, creative workshops, and moments of real conversation. When you’re clear about who you are and what you’re building, the right people will align with that clarity.
