Meet Karina Garcia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karina Garcia.

Hi Karina, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
After losing our jobs, in the early months of 2020, my husband Lalo and I were looking for ways to create income.

After some thought, we came up with the idea of making tacos at home to sell. We tested out tacos amongst friends and family. The original idea was to offer delivery and takeout.

But after a few weeks, our guests started to ask if they can eat the tacos at home, one thing led to another, and fast forward 2 years later we are no longer offering delivery or take-out but instead pre-fixed dinners/brunches.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The challenge has been to stay true and authentic to the food while also being creative.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Cocina Consuelo NYC?
We are a husband and wife-run supper club based out of Harlem.

We take our guests on a journey of Mexican food through the eyes of a black Latina while exploring the influences of black roots in Mexico and honoring home cooking and the bonds it creates between family, friends, and the community.

Any big plans?
We are going with the flow, as this project keeps evolving day by day.
