Today we’d like to introduce you to Karen Wilkinson.
Hi Karen, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My Hair Salon has been in business or 21 years! Nick, my business partner and I both come from families in the business. He is 4th generation, I am 3rd generation. This is what I have always wanted to do, since I was a little girl. We are so excited to have made it this far. We started with 1 other Stylist besides Nick and myself. 1 Manicurist and a Shampoo tech that also answered the phone and ran the desk. Now we have 5 additional Stylists, another Manicurist, and a crew that runs the desk and shampooing duties.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We have had our ups and downs over the years. We have had a lot of support, great people working here and the best customers. We survived a Recession, 2 bouts of Cancer, the Pandemic and we are still kicking. We have been blessed again with good people around us and 4 years ago, found a new place for us to call home right after The Pandemic. And it has been the best thing ever! We are always ready for our business and our team to grow and thrive.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We are a full-service hair salon. We offer everything from cuts, color, perms and extensions! Treatments, highlights fashion colors, if it’s hair…we do it! We do manis and pedis, dip and gel polish. We even do Lash extension! We have New Talent Stylists, who are growing their business and veterans that have been doing hair for over 30 years. We pride ourselves on our customer service. If you come here, you are like family.
This is a Paul Mitchell Focus Salon, so we use mostly all Paul Mitchell products. We have been partnered with Paul Mitchell for almost 20 years and so honored to be part of their team.
We moved into a new beautiful space 4 years ago and we are loving it here. It has a nice open flow, with everything we need to make you relaxed, feel special and walk out looking your best.
I think we are most proud to have had a few stylists move on to do their own thing and are doing fantastic. We always want our people to thrive and reach their goals no matter what they are. We try our best to support our team in all ways.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are a small family-owned business and are always looking for support from our community. We have specials every month and try to keep you informed with all the new and wonderful things Paul Mitchell, and we have to offer. When you visit our salon, we have a Loyalty program, based on what you spend, and with referrals you accumulate money on your account. You can use this on services and products.
We also offer Tiered pricing. From New Talent Stylists, who are just starting their journey. Stylists, Senior Stylists, Master Stylists, and Senior Master Stylists to fit any budget. The prices are based on continued education, and the level of demand of the stylist.
We are always open to working with other businesses in our neighborhood. Doing promotions together, events, and fund raisers. We have done several Blow Dry Boot Camps over the years, that are always a good time.
