Meet Jantra Silbert of Stellaluna Raine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jantra Silbert.

Jantra, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My sisters—Taryn, Dara—and myself have been dreamin’ big since the ’80s! We’d play pretend for hours imagining we owned companies & always hoped we’d work together someday!

As we grew older, our dream seemed out of reach as I went off to study fashion, travel abroad & live in NYC while both of the other sisters coincidentally studied speech pathology and settled down locally to start families. When I decided to move back to the area a few years ago to raise my daughter, I realized the strong need for affordable clothing in all sizes. However, the timing still wasn’t quite right. It wasn’t until the pandemic hit, creating layoffs, that I decided the time was now or never. I brainstormed one night and sent them the text, “it’s finally time to start a boutique!”

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We are all moms with lots on our plates!
Both of my sisters work full-time in education, while we are also trying to keep our kids busy—so finding time to all get together for try-on lives & pop-ups and promoting the business can sometimes be a challenge. Still, we make it work as best we can (usually, that means all of our kids are in tow for these events)! Our other challenge came when we started running out of space for inventory in our parents’ loft, so we decided it was time to move into our very own boutique loft space, where customers will now be able to shop in person! While this will be a whole new venture from online, we are super excited about the opportunity!

As you know, we’re big fans of Stellaluna Raine. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about the brand?
We like to call Stellaluna Raine a boutique for all! We carry women’s clothing ranging from sizes XS-3X, accessories, children’s, men’s & home goods, all for $50 & under! All 3 of us sisters are built very differently (one curvy, one petite & one tall), while we also each have different styles, so we strive to incorporate our individual inputs into all of the pieces that we offer! We also love showcasing the same pieces on all 3 of us to show that they look great on all shapes & sizes! We aim to source Made in the US, fair-trade, or women-owned pieces as much as possible! Lastly, we Shop for a Cause every single month! We pick a cause & a portion of our monthly proceeds go towards a foundation that’s near & dear to us (or our customers!).

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
So many people to thank!

First, we just celebrated our One Year Anniversary! This wouldn’t be possible without our amazing customers! Most are supportive friends who have been rooting for us the entire time & others found us either online, through local pop-ups, or friendly referrals—trusted in us enough to make a purchase & continue to trust in us!

Second, our mother & father have not only let us operate out of their home for the last 16 months, but they also help with our kids & most recently, our father has been doing our new boutique renovations!

Lastly, my fiancé, Tony, has been our biggest cheerleader! Since day one, he has helped with everything from organizing inventory, putting on lives & pop-ups, working crazy hours to get the new shop ready and helping with the kids as much as he can so I can get work done (all on top of his full-time job!)! He definitely played a big part in my sisters’ and I finally being able to do this collaboration and we are just so thankful to him and everyone who continues to support this journey!
