Hi Janice, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Hi, I’m Janice – Founder of Nice Finds LLC. My story begins with a diverse background with roots in Puerto Rico, Germany, and Turkey. Growing up as an Army brat, I had the opportunity to explore the world as my family moved often. Traveling led me to become fascinated with the world’s diversity and culture.
This passion eventually led to a career in journalism where I’ve worked with people from all over the world to tell their stories. I’ve been in the journalism field for nearly a decade and am passionate about shining a light on communities in need of representation. My goal is to empower underserved communities, including small and minority owned businesses, through my platform.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Ha! I love this question. People have looked at me like I have a three heads when I originally shared the idea about my platform.
The pushback came from well-intended family members, co-workers, and friends. While I have many supporters – it’s not as many as I originally thought there would be, but I’m okay with that. I’ve learned to use it as my motivation to keep me going and it’s led me to finding likeminded people.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Nice Finds is a platform for digital storytelling. Simply put – it’s content creation. I serve small and minority-owned businesses by highlighting their stories and sharing what makes them unique. I also offer services such as digital marketing, writing and editing, and social media strategy.
Through my influence, I hope to help close the racial and gender wealth gap and create a safe space for everyday people. Nice Finds uplifts small business owners, fellow creators, and their communities by bringing awareness of their unique talents to the general population. I’m proud that my followers have diverse racial, gender, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I’m a natural-born leader, and I always have been. I walk to the tune of my beat and don’t care what other people think of me.
I’ve always been told that I’m weird, and I’ve always embraced it – even as a child. I express myself through creative outlets, such as how I dress or the content I make. While my personality is intimidating to some, I tend to inspire others to be their authentic selves.
