Meet Janelle of Brewers Hill Baltimore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in the dance studio my mom still owns and runs in Milford, MI. At 18, I moved to New York City to attend college for business—though most people expected me to pursue a dance degree. Instead, I continued my dance training outside of school, studying both contemporary ballet and belly dance.
Over time, I built a career as a freelance belly dancer, which opened the door to other performance opportunities in the gig world, including stilt walking, aerial arts, fire performance, and more. In 2022, I launched my own entertainment company.
About three years ago, my husband and I moved to the DMV area. I was nervous about the transition at first, but it’s truly become a wonderful place to call home—for both my life and my business.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are many ups and downs in being an artist. You’re constantly faced with moments that push you outside your comfort zone, and that doesn’t really change, even as you reach new goals. Performing and creating art is the easy and best part. The hardest part is the waiting—the uncertainty, the rejection, and the constant effort it takes to maintain belief in yourself. It’s very easy to get discouraged in this business, but that resilience is part of what shapes you as an artist.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a multifaceted artist who also works on the business side of the industry. I own an entertainment company that provides performers and artists for all types of events. What sets me apart is the combination of a strong business mindset with a deep understanding of artistry. I’m able to communicate effectively with fellow artists, understand their needs, and bring my clients’ visions to life. When everything comes together, it feels truly magical.

It’s hard to pinpoint a single moment I’m most proud of, because each event is special in its own way. My team and I have been part of hundreds of people’s most meaningful days, and being included in those moments is something I never take for granted. From children’s birthday parties to large corporate events, seeing the smiles on guests’ faces is what it’s all about.

As a business owner, one of the most rewarding experiences is producing large-scale events. These productions can take months of planning, and watching a vision grow from a simple idea into something fully realized is incredibly fulfilling.
