Meet Jamesa Alexander of Jayne Heir Weddings & Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamesa Alexander.

Hi Jamesa, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my business seven years ago at the tail end of a divorce. As oddly as it may seem, I decided that despite the failure of my own marriage, I still wanted to assist people with one of the most important days of their lives, even if life for myself wasn’t exactly what I had hoped for during the time. Starting my business gave me the opportunity to still celebrate the beauty of marriage and, most importantly, helped me to still believe in love. When I started my business, I had no idea the impact that it would have on others or how I would be able to contribute to my community, but it changed the trajectory of my life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the journey hasn’t been smooth and actually came with many challenges. One of the most prominent transitions that helped me to develop as an entrepreneur, was becoming a mother after my third year in business. It was quite the transition and I wasn’t quite prepared for how my life would ultimately change. More importantly, how it would change the way I did business. Becoming a mother helped me to set boundaries and create a regiment for a healthy work-life balance. Prior to having my son, I would work all the time and reply to emails late at night. I had no understanding of what it meant to rest and that was a huge issue that needed to be realigned in my life.

Jayne Heir Weddings and Events, which is a premiere, boutique planning agency located in Maryland. Jayne Heir Weddings and Events was founded in 2014 as a brand that embodies modern, lavish, and unique components that create a royal impression for clients and their guests. The founder, Alexander, is passionate about providing high-quality services to enhance the overall planning experience for clients that desire a grandeur event. As a lover of lavish and fabulous aspects of life, Alexander incorporates her “heiress” mentality into each and every event, aiming to exceed the expectations of the clients.

Jayne Heir Weddings & Events is known for producing highly customized event designs that are memorable and embraces the art of storytelling. The storytelling aspect of our event designs is what people hire us for as we incorporate their lifestyle and pertinent details about our clients into their special event. Brand wise, we are a high-end planning firm and are incredibly proud of our featured work in several publications such as Baltimore Bride, Black Bride, BRIDES, Essence, Glamour, Munaluchi Bride, The Knot, Washingtonian Weddings, and Wedding Wire.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to be a business owner and help others. I just wasn’t sure what type of business I would have or what industry I would choose to work in. I was always active in my church and community and participated in competitive cheerleading and gymnastics for most of my childhood. As I got older, I continued with cheerleading and cheered at the University of Maryland-College Park for three years. Go Terps!
