Meet Fashion Designer Kiara Quick

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kiara Quick.

Hi Kiara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a young child, my aunt would always dress me up as her doll baby. I would always get best dressed in the yearbook and I loved dressing outside of the box. I always knew I wanted to have a place in the fashion world I just didn’t know what exactly.

I’ve modeled and styled before, but my true passion for fashion didn’t come until after I gave birth to my daughter. After gaining weight during my pregnancy, I wanted to lose the weight and I refused to go to the gym with sweats and a t-shirt so I took sewing classes and started making my own Athleisure clothes to workout in. Initially, this was just to boost my self-esteem and my passion for designing turned into my business FASHION MERMAID!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road? I wish lol…Not at all!!! Despite the self-doubt, I took a leap of faith and created my first collection, and had my first fashion show in 2019. Leading to that point I was using my own money to finance my business and I would ask myself can you really do this?!

I am so honored to have so much support because that is one thing that was not lacking. The biggest struggle really was funding! Despite the financial strain doing it all by myself Fashion Mermaid has been successful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I tell people I have a 9-5 and a 5-9. My 9-5 career I am a Sr. Compensation & Benefits Consultant for Children’s National Hospital! I hold a degree in Mathematics – with my day job I am able to utilize my math degree. I love working with numbers!

My passion is my 5-9 designing and creating content.

People call me the Mermaid that’s what I am know for lol! I believe in fairytales and exude this confidence that everyone gravitates to.

I am most proud of how I am able to balance, my career, my passion, being a mom as well as have a social life!

I show up as my true self is what sets me apart from others. I believe everyone can win and I am a huge advocate for pushing people to tap into their glory!

What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very studious with a side of creativity. I was a popular kid yet quiet and loved cheering.

I feel like I had the best of both worlds because I was academic as well as creative. I would do good in school so that I can sign up for extracurricular activities.
