Meet Dr. Shawanda Moore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Shawanda Moore. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Our company started under the name Putty’s Tax Services in 2010 and later became Royal Financial Services in 2018 and has been successfully operating. The company started out by assisting low-income individuals and senior citizens with filing their taxes free of charge.

It was one of our first community service projects done under our company’s name that assisted with passion and purpose versus profit. In 2014, we became a profitable business but continued community services on an annual basis such as Thanksgiving Baskets Give-A-Ways, Christmas Toys, and Activities Event, School Supplies, and Uniforms Drives, and many more.

The community service projects assisted with the growth of our company as many individuals started to have their income taxes completed with our company as a method to assist with our ability to assist more people in the community.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road throughout the process because initially, we did not have the staff needed to assist a large volume of people in a timely manner as it was difficult to find individuals to volunteer with our company. Therefore, we could only assist about 20 to 25 people a day due to us working a 9 to 5 at that time.

However, we were satisfied with being able to provide free services to over 200 people per year. As we became a profit business we struggled with marketing and branding due to our lack of knowledge in those areas. We started researching these topics and started with the most affordable services to ensure we did not max out on the budget we had prepared for that particular tax season.

The fact that we are able to grow in clients each year allows us to increase the marketing and branding budget.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
At Royal Financial Services we provide professional and accurate services to assist our clients with receiving their maximum refund. We conduct thorough assessments of our client’s tax needs to ensure we add every credit and deduction that they qualify for. We also provide our clients with small tokens of appreciation for their first year filing with us, each year that they file with us, and for referring other individuals to file with us.

Royal Financial Services offers several products and services such as tax preparation, credit repair, notary, tax courses, tax books and resources, tax software. financial literacy books for children, and more. We are known mainly for tax preparation services and our CEO Dr. Shawanda Moore is known as the Tax Doctor.

We are most proud of our ability to give back to the community as we recently started a college scholarship to assist high school graduates during their first year of college.

We are set apart from others because we allow our passion to overcome profit as we try to always have the most affordable prices available to our clients.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking is always the key to starting and growing a company because it allows input and involvement from others. A great mentor would provide the needed tools and resources to assist a struggling individual.

It would be suggested to contact the person of interest via email for a request of mentorship by providing the following: A detailed introduction of yourself, detailed explanation of why you choose that individual (what you admire about them, what caught your attention about them, what you gained from studying them from a distance, and etc.), the goals you have for your company, and how you would benefit from the mentorship.

Obtaining a mentor was never on my agenda, therefore, I focused on studying and research all components of the tax industry, marketing, branding, starting a profitable business, and operating a profitable business. Though I did not have a mentor, there were several companies that I researched to gain knowledge on the tax profession.
