Meet Derrick Myers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Derrick Myers.

Hi Derrick, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I got my start in media production almost 12 years ago. I initially wanted to be a filmmaker, but over the last 5 years I transitioned to focusing on podcast production

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh, not at all lol. I trusted the wrong people along the way. Also, I didn’t understand I had anxiety, so my overthinking stopped me from making specific moves. I was promised to work on big projects, but those fell through. A production company that I used to work for made promises that would help me get my career moving, but those never came through.

While working there, I tried getting my company moving, but it never gained traction. Mainly because I couldn’t identify what set me apart from other production companies

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I own a production company called OTS. OTS stands for On The Sidelines. I established it in October 2018 when my girlfriend at that time encouraged me to do so. Right now, the main focus is podcast production. I have other services that I provide such as photography and editing, but the main focus of the company has been podcasting.

I produce and edit over 20 shows. Most are actual podcasts, but some are YouTube-based. OTS covers factually-based reporting on sports, gaming, music, movies/TV, and fashion. What sets us apart is what we cover and how we cover it. Being factually based and stressing that focus is something media companies, in general, don’t do.

I’m proud of that. It allows who we report on to be able to trust we’ll do right by them. Also, I’m proud of the evolution of the shows. I’ve learned a lot as an editor while doing this.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was a quiet kid. I loved making people laugh and enjoy being around me but I never liked the spotlight. I’ve been producing and hosting podcasts for 6 years now and just got comfortable with being on camera and mic. That’s mainly because I always enjoyed being behind scenes and supporting others growing up.

I loved watching movies and playing with my toys. I had an active and vivid imagination which I find to be a valuable asset now. I’m able to think outside of the box
