Today we’d like to introduce you to Debbe Salvino.
Hi Debbe, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I knew I always wanted to be in the beauty industry. At 14 I was accepted into an art school that had a cosmetology program. By my senior year, I was licensed and working full-time in a salon. I traveled all over the country to receive education from many companies. Soon after social media became our new normal, I was being asked to teach my techniques independently. From that has grown my passion to now share my knowledge with the hairstylist community! I’m currently working on growing my salon space and community, as well as introducing Two Mane Babes Online Education alongside my business partner Sarah Goldsborough.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The beauty industry is always evolving and it takes years of experience to really find yourself. I wanted to be great off the bat but needed time and patience to grow my craft and find my niche. That meant a lot of long days/weeks, never saying no to any project, and not much work/life balance. There’s always something to learn so education never stops!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a master colorist of 20+ years specializing in luxury Lived-in Dimensional color. I love creating customized looks for my clients. I truly believe that no two manes are the same, so each client receives a color that is completely unique to them. I’m also an independent educator. I know the value of education and want to helps others in my community grow their craft and business. I provide education in person and soon to be online.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I see more artists going independent. For a long time, the trend leaned towards bigger corporate salons in order to build your business. Now our industry is shifting to self-employment (I think largely due in part to social media) the demand for salon suites is at an all-time high.
I think we will see the Lived-in color trend stay for a while with some small seasonal changes.
