Meet Danielle Greene of Edgewood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Greene.

Hi Danielle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started baking with my father as a kid and always took it with me through life as I grew older. In 2018, I was forced to quit my Wendy’s job. I had been working for already 8 years, 3 months later, I began working at my local Walmart, unloading boxes and stocking shelves. I was there almost 8-9 months before hearing about a cake decorator position at a bigger Walmart. I took my opportunity and applied for the position. Even though I knew absolutely nothing about decorating cakes, only baking, I still went for it. So there I was in 2019, learning how to decorate cakes, then I got good at it and decided to take it home and make it mine. I began decorating cakes at work, purchasing them, and then selling them for 2-3 times the prices because I designed and decorated them myself, which was starting to become an issue eventually, which caused the end of my Walmart career. I then began purchasing supplies, decorating my cakes from my home, starting my small business in 2020, and decorating my baked cakes! Just as covid was beginning.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing stays smooth forever. Lol, it fluctuates. Consistency is not always guaranteed, which is where the struggle comes in—slowing down, picking up the business, and learning how to prepare for both sides. I’ve had no orders for weeks, then OUT OF NOWHERE 7/8 orders in one weekend. Time is then a factor; ingredients and supplies then become a factor. A bumpy road, consistency is the biggest struggle.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a cake decorator. I specialize in CUSTOM cake designs. I’m most known for my cupcakes. The cakes are beautiful; they catch everyone’s eye, but the taste of my products brings the people back. And my customer service as well. I worked at Wendy’s for 8 years and eventually became a manager, so I had ALOT ALOT of experience when it came to working and communicating with different types of people. Know how to handle issues, fix mistakes, listen to the problem and do everything in my power to try to fix it. I’m extremely big on customer service, and certainly something that I am most proud of. I’m most known for my cupcakes because they all, every single flavor, has my signature crust at the bottom of each cupcake. They love it.

Had we loved to hear about any fond memories you have from growing up?
School. I loved school, being around my friends, socializing, and creating bonds. If I could keep reliving my grade school days, I certainly would. Learning yourself as you grow is an experience in itself.
