Meet Collin Cessna

Today we’d like to introduce you to Collin Cessna.

Hi Collin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been drawing and painting since the first grade. I went to an art high school (Carver Center for the Arts and Technology) which taught the foundations of drawing and painting. After high school, I got a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Baltimore. I worked several jobs in retail and mechanic shops before getting a job in the environmental field. I worked in the environmental field for several years. Towards the end of this job, I developed a large amount of stress, anxiety and depression. I asked myself do I want to continue on this path for the rest of my life? Or do I want to do what I really love? I knew deep inside that I loved art. I decided to quit my job and a few weeks later, I was painting landscapes around the Baltimore area. I started spreading the word about me painting full time and friends/family contacted me for commissions. Commissions started to line up and I decided to give art a go. I have been painting and drawing full time for a year now and I am excited to continue on this path.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Some parts of the journey have been smooth and others have not. Executing the paintings and drawings are the easy parts for me. I find that I am most relaxed when I am drawing or painting. The challenging parts have been the business side of being an artist. Pricing my work at first was difficult. I would consistently undersell my pieces which was doing me a tremendous disservice. Marketing is another challenge that I faced. I found that some social media platforms reach a wider audience than others. I had to find platforms and techniques that work for me to reach an audience. I also faced scrutiny from others for deciding to be an artist. I had to learn to follow my heart instead of others telling me what I should do.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a visual artist that works in a variety of mediums and different subject matters. I am known for painting pet portraits, human portraits and landscapes. My original artwork specializes in impressionistic landscape scenes. I love expressing myself through color and shapes. I also work on abstract, illustrative and surreal pieces.

I am most proud of committing to a life of creating artwork and following my dreams.

I would say having a wide variety of styles sets me apart from others. I can tailor a style for a specific commission. I like to call it the chameleon technique.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am open for collaboration and support. If you would like to contact me for a collaboration, support or commission my email is and my Etsy shop is
