Today we’d like to introduce you to Colette Colclough.
Hi Colette, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
The Women’s Leadership Forum (WLF), now in its sixth year, is partnering with Morgan State University’s Baltimore Metropolitan Women’s Business Center
(BMWBC) to present the WLF Purse Pitch Competition. The Women’s Leadership Forum is a safe space for women to gather to talk about anything from finances to health with experts in the field. There have been over 1,000 participants globally in the Women’s Leadership Forum.
This year, The Women’s Leadership Forum, along with the Baltimore Metropolitan Women’s Business Center at Morgan State University, will ensure that women learn how to promote their business value, learn the best practices for attracting and influencing potential clients, and learning what it takes to compete for top dollars.
All participants must attend an 8-week workshop. The workshop will start in March 2023 – Women’s History Month. The classes equip women with additional business acumen and business coaching. Types include Orientation, Proceeds Intention, Elevator Intention, Elevator Pitch, Communication, and Valuation. This process leads to two rounds of 3-minute pitching, which community business leaders will judge.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No. Like most non-profits, we have operated leanly and always are in need of consistent volunteers. Money and resources have oftentimes been thin which has required The Women’s Leadership Forum to be creative in their thinking. Good support is a key factor in overcoming challenges.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been the VP of Human Resources for Maryland Public Television for over 10 years. I love what I do. I am most proud of seeing the employees who have crossed my office become great! I am most proud of the Forum. We started with 65 women and now are affecting and changing the lives of over a thousand women. Women look forward to the events and are willing to participate wholeheartedly.
I think that how I care for others sets me apart. My job is my passion and purpose. I am fortunate to work in both.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We are always looking for 1. Sponsors to support the women and the Forum 2. Experts impart their wisdom to speak at events and garner exposure.
