Meet Carlos Rentas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Rentas.

Hi Carlos, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I was a striving kid in Puerto Rico who was also wishing to help my family and others. My biggest desire was to get a job as a teenager, however, I landed my first job when I joined the military. The military is not for everyone, but I made it for me for many years, even up to this moment while serving as a soldier.

After 6 tours into many different conflicts around the world and traveling the world, I decided to finish my school in the Cyber Security industry and become an engineer in technological systems which exposed me to many different systems and technology devices.

I then relocated around the Baltimore City area in which I was fortunate enough to be around many passionate people in the world of art. After visiting many sessions of behavioral health therapy to treat PTSD and other social issues that derived from the military and the things I experienced, I then started changing my habits and hobbies which brought me to the world of photography.

When I first picked up my first DSLR camera (close to 4 years ago) and saw the great images I was producing, I then turned to making it a hobby and teaching others about it. This hobby allowed me to escape many social and behavioral issues but also allowed me to meet new people and other influencers in the trade. Until this day, I offer most of my services for free. I enjoy teaching others this skill or helping other boosts up their self-esteem, by allowing them to view aside from them what they have never ever seen before.

My goals are to eventually, make this an affordable business and provide affordable services to the people of Baltimore City and surrounding areas, open my first studio so that all types of people from everywhere in the world can visit and have a great experience and become the motivation that anyone needs in order to start their own journey as well.

Some of my biggest influencers in life has always been the people who struggle and later become and Icon and my sidekick and wife, who like me, also joined the service and has overcome many obstacles before and after conflicts in the war in Iraq.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Although, it is an affordable business to start, initially, it is hard trying to put your name out there for the people to trust your work. EVEN IF IT IS A FREE SERVICE! My opinion is that people just don’t want you to waste their time.

Many tools are available, however, is really how you apply them to yourself. I self-thought myself into this trade, but also with the help of some individuals such as my older brother who is another great photographer and videographer in the city of Dallas, Texas.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance photographer/videographer. I make other people look great by capturing their beauty and their desired moments in life. Even though evolve in any style of photography my biggest passion and specialty is portrait photography.

I am most proud of all my accomplishments, however, as it relates to this trade, I am most proud of how I use the tools available to learn this and the courage it takes to approach people and ask for their photos. That I am proud of for sure!
