Meet Brittany Arnett of The Dappled Wood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Arnett

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hey! I am B, I am the owner and artist behind The Dappled Wood, where we create faux stone and floral clay jewelry and accessories to inspire women to be bold as nature.

One of my fondest early memories is sitting with my granddaddy at seven years old, learning to paint. He taught me to build an image with patience, using small, careful strokes and to understand that mistakes are just part of the process. This approach has become foundational in my art and entrepreneurship. It taught me the power of persistence and following your passion even if it’s just one tiny step at a time.

I hope to embody these values and become a leader in my community, inspiring others to also follow their dreams. Women often face untold challenges in and out of the workplace and I wanted to create pieces that would remind them to channel the strength and majesty of the natural world in all aspects of their life. My aim has always been to create wearable art that makes people feel beautiful and powerful but also to provide a meaningful form of personal expression especially as women as often forced to tone down their shine and make themselves smaller in spaces where they are trying to make a difference.

I started this business in 2022 and as I look back on my journey with The Dappled Wood, I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come. I’m deeply grateful for the unwavering support of my family, friends, and the community I have found along the way. Nothing brings me more joy than seeing the smiles my ear art brings to others.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s part of what makes this journey so meaningful. Starting The Dappled Wood a couple years was exhilarating, but I quickly learned that turning a passion into a business requires a lot of grit. There were times when I struggled to balance creative freedom with the practicalities of running a business, from figuring out how to market my pieces to learning the ins and outs of e-commerce. All the while working a full time job and struggling with becoming a mom.

As a small business owner, I’ve worn every hat—artist, marketer, customer service rep, and accountant. I’ve faced moments of self-doubt, especially when sales were slow, and I wondered if I was on the right path. It’s been hard to navigate the financial side of things after being laid off during my maternity leave, and there have been many late nights working to build up stock for markets, fulfill orders, update the website, and keep up with social media.

But through all these challenges, I continue to find my resilience. My community—friends, family, and loyal customers— have lifted me up and reminded me why I started this journey in the first place. Each struggle has helped me grow stronger and more connected to my purpose. It’s been anything but smooth, yet every bump in the road has shaped me into a more resourceful, passionate, and committed artist and business owner.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Dappled Wood?
At The Dappled Wood, we create faux stone and floral-inspired polymer clay jewelry and accessories that celebrate the beauty of nature. Each piece is crafted with premium, hypoallergenic metals and designed to be a year-round style staple. While many of our pieces are big and bold, our statement jewelry remains lightweight and tarnish-resistant, ensuring comfortable, long-lasting wear. We like to think of our pieces as more than just accessories—they’re wearable art meant to empower women to embrace their boldness and show up authentically, even in spaces where they might feel pressured to tone it down.

What sets us apart from the jewelry found in big-box stores is the intentional detail and care behind every piece. I make each item by hand in my studio (which doubles as my laundry room), infusing a bit of myself into every design. I’m especially proud of the community we’re building, where women feel seen, inspired, and empowered. When you wear a piece from The Dappled Wood, you’re embracing a little piece of art that reminds you to be unapologetically bold and beautifully you, every day of the year. What’s not to love!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I follow a lot of business gurus on social media. I believe if you curate your digital spaces you can design a powerful place to learn and be inspired. My most used app is easily Instagram, followed by Kindle. I tend to read close to 50 books a year, alternating between curling up by the fireplace with my ipad and listening to novels while working in the studio. I largely prefer fantasy novels, they are a guilty pleasure and a great way to decompress after juggling being a mom, wife and entrepreneur on a daily basis.
