Today we’d like to introduce you to Braquelle Murphy
Hi Braquelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was an undergrad, I was a pre-nursing major. I took one human anatomy exam, failed it, and I changed my major to psychology the same day. My heart was not in learning every bone in the body, but I always knew I valued hearing people’s stories and deeply empathized with those around me. When I was in grad school, I always imagined having a business that I was passionate about and that represented what was important to me. In April 2024, I started my solo practice. I received invaluable business mentorship From Tamia Barnes Tomasek. As time passed, I built my caseload, partnered with several nonprofits, joined the Military Spouse Employment Program with the Department of Defence, and created a website that feels like me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Securing my internship in graduate school was way harder than it needed to be. I was in Germany accompanying my spouse who was in the Air Force. I was told “no” so many times, but I was not going to take “no” for an answer. I feel like I have always had that quality, especially when it came to my education. I have made mistakes while owning my practice, but I do keep in mind that this is all a learning experience and the first time that I have ever done anything like this. I think that having self-compassion has been an integral part of my journey as a private practice owner.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a trauma-informed therapist who primarily practices EMDR, Ego State therapy, and Animal-assisted psychotherapy. I think I am most proud to be a psychotherapist. It feels like an honor to be a part of my client’s journey. Many times throughout the week it feels like I just get to see the best of humans. I am really proud of the partnerships that I have secured with several non-profits and the partnership that I have with the Military Spouse Employment Program with The Department of Defence. I am so passionate about supporting the militray community and I intend to support this community for the rest of my career.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I would like to eventually have an in-person location and I would like my dog, Harlem, to be a therapy dog. I’m not sure if that’s surprising because most people know my dogs are everything to me, but it may be surprising to be greeted by a 140-pound rottweiler at a therapy office.
