Today we’d like to introduce you to Ayda Abebe.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Born and raised in Ethiopia, I moved to the US in 2009 for college. My husband and I met in college and moved to Maryland after graduating college. Adee’s Tulips was born from a shared dream between my husband and I. He had a passion for creating welcoming spaces—he loved coffee culture and design, and I always had a deep love for flowers and giving to the community.
My husband had always dreamed of becoming an entrepreneur by building something meaningful, a place that would bring people together and add beauty to everyday life. When the opportunity came to turn that dream into reality, I decided to pursue it wholeheartedly with my finance and customer service background. Because flowers have always been something I truly love, committing to the journey felt natural.
What began as a simple idea grew into Adee’s Tulips, a business rooted in passion, resilience, and creativity. Over time, with the support of our community in Baltimore, we’ve been able to grow and share our work with so many people celebrating meaningful moments in their lives like weddings, birthdays, funerals s well graduations to name a few.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. Like many small businesses, we’ve faced a lot of challenges along the way—from the financial pressures of starting and growing a business to learning how to navigate the day-to-day realities of running operations but the biggest step is to trusting your vision and to keep going no matter the hurrdles and trusting God to guide us. Along the way, we had to navigate big life changes, including moving to different cities while raising our kids. Balancing family responsibilities with the demands of running and growing a business often meant constantly adjusting our priorities.
There were also challenges in building the right team, maintaining consistency, and balancing the creative side of floral design with the demands of running a business. The flower industry itself can be unpredictable, with supply costs, seasonal availability, and logistics always changing.
But those challenges also helped us grow. They forced us to adapt, learn quickly, and stay committed to the vision we started with. Even when things were difficult, the passion behind Adee’s Tulips and the support from the community in Baltimore kept us moving forward.
As you know, we’re big fans of Adee’s Tulips. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Adee’s Tulips is more than just a florist—we’re a full experience. While we specialize in premium, designer-quality flowers sourced primarily from Colombia and Ecuador for weddings and my life events, what sets us apart is that we’re also a coffee shop and a bar. Guests can enjoy expertly crafted coffee, cocktails, and a welcoming atmosphere alongside beautiful floral arrangements, all in one space.
We’re also incredibly family-friendly, hosting monthly kids’ events and flower workshops designed to inspire creativity and make our space accessible for all ages. Whether someone is stopping in for a cup of coffee, picking up a custom bouquet, celebrating a special occasion, or bringing their children to a workshop, we aim to make every visit memorable.
What we’re most proud of as a brand is this combination of premium flowers, thoughtful service, and a warm, inclusive environment that encourages community connection. We want readers to know that Adee’s Tulips is a place where beauty, creativity, and care intersect—whether you’re coming for flowers, drinks, coffee, or a family-friendly event, there’s something special waiting for you.
Beyond weddings, events, and everyday orders, we’re especially proud of our “pay it forward” tradition: after every wedding or event, we donate the flowers to hospitals and nursing homes in Baltimore (we offer this service free of charge to the couples). Seeing patients’ faces light up when they receive flowers is incredibly touching and reminds us why we do what we do.
What matters most to you?
What matters most to us at Adee’s Tulips is bringing joy, connection, and beauty into people’s lives. This business began as a shared dream—my husband’s passion for community and coffee, and my love and creativity for flowers. Pursuing that dream together has been the heart of everything we do. I have to give him full credit for pursuing his dream and pushing me to do this out of corporate life.
Every bouquet, every arrangement, and every event is crafted with care, because we know flowers have the power to brighten someone’s day and create lasting memories.
For us, it’s about more than just flowers—it’s about sharing beauty, creating experiences, and honoring a dream that brings people together. Every bloom is an opportunity to make someone smile, and that’s what truly drives us.
