Today we’d like to introduce you to Arianna Shields.
Hi Arianna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Arianna Shields, and I’m a 29-year-old hairstylist proudly born and raised in Baltimore Maryland. My journey into the world of cosmetology started with a childhood love for hair and makeup. As a teenager, I spent countless hours experimenting on myself and anyone who was kind enough to let me style their hair or do their makeup. At the time, I saw it as a fun hobby, never imagining it would one day become my career. But life has a way of bringing things full circle. In 2015, I decided to turn my passion into a profession and enrolled in cosmetology school, passed state board and received my license shortly after. I started out as a hairstylist and gradually worked my way into managerial roles at various salons. Those experiences were invaluable, sharpening my skills and giving me a deeper understanding of the industry.
Using everything I’d learned, I launched the AriMadeMe Experience – a unique concept that combines salon services with mobile styling options. This has been a dream come true, allowing me to not only express my love for hair but also to create memorable experiences for my clients, whether they’re in the salon or enjoying the convenience and comfort of their own homes. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited for what’s to come.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
This journey has certainly had its challenges. The pandemic was by far the most significant obstacle I’ve faced, like so many others in the beauty industry. The first salon I worked at closed permanently due to COVID-19, leaving me unexpectedly unemployed. This setback was undoubtedly difficult to navigate, but I remained determined and refused to be discouraged. I decided to open a studio suite, but the revenue was slow to start as the world adjusted to a new normal. To adapt, I began offering mobile services, which allowed me to be more flexible and reach a wider range of clients. When the world started reopening, I went back to the salon setting while continuing to offer mobile services.
Through it all, my go-getter attitude and resilience have been my greatest assets. Each challenge has taught me the importance of adaptability and persistence. Those experiences have shaped me and propelled me to where I am today, turning my struggles into success.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a hairstylist, my work is all about creating beauty and confidence for my clients while ensuring they feel truly welcome and valued. I specialize in round brush blowouts, updos, and extensions, but my services cover a wide range of beauty needs. What truly sets me apart is my ability to make every client feel special and beautiful. I know their hair and preferences so well that often they don’t even have to tell me what they want. Plus, my styles are designed to last, giving my clients the confidence, they need long after they leave the chair. I’m incredibly proud of the journey I’ve taken in this industry. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with some of Marylands finest beauty professionals and building a loyal clientele that I cherish. My work has been featured in prestigious publications like Vogue magazine, Baltimore Style Magazine, and other Maryland-based magazines. I’ve also had the honor of styling hair for significant events, including the Governor’s inauguration and ball, as well as twice at the Baltimore Met Gala. These experiences have been highlights of my career, and I’m constantly inspired to push boundaries and bring my clients’ visions to life.
What does success mean to you?
At 29, I see success as a mix of personal growth and achieving meaningful goals. It’s not just about hitting milestones but about the effort and persistence it takes to get there. For me, success is a journey—it’s about showing up every day, learning from experiences, and continuously striving to be better than I was yesterday.
