Today we’d like to introduce you to Antonio Brown Jr.
Hi Antonio, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, and I carry this city with me in everything I do. I attended Dunbar High School and went on to earn a full football scholarship to Morgan State University, where I played football, pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and graduated with honors. I later earned my master’s degree from Morgan State as well — an institution that has been foundational to both my personal and professional growth.
While in graduate school, I founded It Takes One Inc., a Baltimore-based nonprofit that provides scholarships to Baltimore City high school seniors. To date, we’ve proudly awarded over 15 scholarships — an effort rooted in my commitment to uplift the next generation from my hometown.
My professional journey began in healthcare finance, but my passion evolved into a focus on personal finance and entrepreneurship. That transition led me to real estate investing and starting a tax planning and preparation firm serving individuals and small businesses. In 2020, I purchased and renovated my childhood home — a deeply personal milestone that marked the beginning of my real estate journey. It was incredibly meaningful to reclaim a piece of my past and begin reinvesting in the very neighborhood that raised me. Since then, I’ve grown my real estate portfolio to over $3 million.
In 2021, I launched Tax Time Tony LLC, a company focused on helping people navigate the complexities of the tax system. What brings me the greatest joy in both ventures is being able to give back — by offering quality, affordable housing and empowering my community through financial education and tax strategy.
My entrepreneurial spirit didn’t stop there. I founded A.L. Brown Development Group LLC with the mission of “Rebuilding Communities.” Through this venture, we’re tackling both residential and commercial development and repair projects. Where others may see blight or vacancy, I see potential — vibrant communities that deserve to be restored with care and dignity.
Most recently, I was honored to be appointed by Governor Wes Moore to the Baltimore City Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board. In this role, I help ensure fairness in local property tax assessments and assist residents with tax-related appeals under programs like the Homeowners’ and Renters’ Tax Credit Programs.
I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but I’m even more excited about what’s ahead. Whether it’s helping a family find a safe home, building generational wealth through tax planning, or restoring pride in Baltimore’s neighborhoods, my mission is clear: to serve, to build, and to give back to the city that gave me so much.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
This journey of entrepreneurship has been anything but easy — but it has absolutely been worth it. Along the way, I’ve encountered my fair share of roadblocks and detours, but each challenge has shaped me into the business owner I am today. I’m proud of how far I’ve come and even more excited about where I’m headed.
One of the biggest challenges I faced was entering the tax industry without a traditional accounting background. That meant I had to work twice as hard to build a solid foundation — studying tax law, learning core accounting principles, and constantly staying updated with the ever-changing tax code. It was humbling, but it also taught me the value of seeking knowledge and surrounding myself with mentors and experts who could help me grow.
Real estate has also presented its own set of challenges. The market is always shifting, and success depends on your ability to adapt — whether it’s responding to interest rate changes, navigating supply shortages, or understanding new zoning regulations. It’s a constantly evolving space that forces you to stay sharp and flexible.
Despite the hurdles, I’ve embraced every lesson along the way. These struggles have helped me build stronger businesses, develop deeper connections, and stay committed to serving my community with integrity and care.
