Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha LaVon.
Hi Alisha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been doing hair for over 20 years, but my journey really started long before I became a professional stylist. Growing up, I was always playing in my own hair and experimenting with different styles. Braiding came naturally to me. In fact, my sister and I used to have a little neighborhood hustle—if you rode our school bus, we would travel right to your house and you could get cornrows for ten dollars!
By the time I was in the 9th grade, I had already decided that hair was what I wanted to do for real. I enrolled in a cosmetology program while I was still in high school and never looked back.
What started as a love for hair quickly became a passion for helping people feel confident. I’ve always believed that hair is more than just a style—it’s a form of self-expression, confidence, and self-care.
Over the years, I worked hard to perfect my craft, especially when it comes to natural hair care, protective styles, braids, and extensions. Because I’ve always balanced doing hair part-time alongside my other career goals and professional roles, I had to be very intentional about how I structured my business. That’s ultimately what led me to the salon suite model.
Operating out of a private suite allowed me the flexibility I needed, while perfectly aligning with the exact experience I wanted to give my clients. I wanted a space where they felt comfortable, cared for, and never rushed.
That’s what led me to create LVX Hair Salon—which stands for LaVon Luxe. I built it around personalized, one-on-one service because I truly value the relationships I have with my clients. Many of them have been with me for years, and I’ve had the privilege of being part of important moments in their lives—from graduations and weddings to new careers and motherhood.
Getting to where I am today hasn’t always been easy. Building a business requires resilience, faith, and a willingness to keep learning. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve worn a lot of hats over the years, but every challenge has helped shape the stylist and business owner I am today.
Looking back, I’m grateful that I listened to that young girl who loved doing hair and knew what she wanted at such an early age. Today, I’m proud to have built a business that reflects who I am and what I believe in: healthy hair, luxury service, authenticity, and helping people feel their best every time they sit in my chair.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. When you love what you do, the creative side comes naturally, but transitioning from treating hair as a side hustle to running a full-on business is a massive adjustment.
One of my biggest day-to-day challenges has been managing my schedule. Because I balance this with other professional responsibilities, my salon hours are strictly evenings and weekends. On top of that, I was also going back to school to finish my Bachelor’s degree—so shout out to Capella University, Class of 2026! Managing that entire schedule while making sure I was still giving 100% of my energy to my clients required a serious amount of discipline.
The other major hurdle was diving headfirst into the actual business side of things. There is so much more to owning a business than people realize. Learning how to navigate commercial property leases, understanding taxes, staying on top of licenses, and managing all the hidden fees was a steep learning curve. You quickly learn the reality of how much money it actually takes just to make money.
Every single one of those challenges forced me to grow. It took a lot of resilience to shift my mindset from just being a great stylist to being a strategic business owner, but learning how to navigate those behind-the-scenes complexities is exactly what made me confident in the longevity of my brand.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about LVX Hair Salon?
LVX Hair Salon is a private salon suite designed around personalized, one-on-one care. We specialize in natural hair care, protective styling, precision braids, and extensions. More than anything, we are known for our absolute commitment to healthy hair.
What really sets LVX apart is that I’m not just about making money; I care about the long-term integrity of your hair. My clients love that I don’t offer everything, and I won’t offer every service to every person. If a style isn’t right for your hair or scalp health, you simply cannot book that service just yet—we are going to get your hair healthy first. Because of that strict standard, there are no hair horror stories after leaving my salon.
Operating out of a private suite allows us to provide a premium, intimate experience. There is no double-booking, no crowded waiting room, and no feeling like you’re being rushed. When you are in my chair, the focus is entirely on you. Every single appointment includes a complimentary shampoo and blow-dry because proper prep is non-negotiable for a flawless style and proper hair and scalp health.
Brand-wise, I am most proud of building a business that stays true to its standards while maintaining a warm, inviting, and amazing vibe.
What I want readers to know is that LVX is truly a safe space. Whether you’re coming in for a detailed protective style or routine natural hair care, you aren’t just getting a service—you are getting a dedicated block of time curated entirely for your relaxation, confidence, and self-care.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My success has been shaped by a community of people, and every interaction along this journey has left an impact on who I am today.
My clients deserve so much credit. Their loyalty and support are the entire reason LVX exists. Many of them have trusted me for years, many over a decade, and their belief in my vision gave me the confidence to step into the salon suite model.
I’ve also been incredibly impacted by my suite mates and the professional business connections I’ve met throughout this journey. Being surrounded by other entrepreneurs who are also navigating the highs and lows of business ownership creates a really special bond and a community where we can just lean on each other.
Honestly, I’ve learned from it all—the good and the bad. The cheerleaders and supporters have kept me inspired, while the more challenging professional experiences taught me how to set firm boundaries and protect the integrity of my brand. Every single person who has crossed my path, whether they offered a word of encouragement or a tough business lesson, has played a role in shaping the stylist and business owner I am moving forward.
