Meet Alexandria Hampton of Jacksonville, FL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexandria Hampton.

Hi Alexandria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in the Chicagoland area and attended Florida A&M University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Management with a minor in Business. After graduating, I initially struggled to break into my field, which led me to attend a conference hosted by International Organization of Black Security Executives. That experience opened the door to my first role as an Asset Protection Manager with JCPenney.

From there, I built a career in the security industry, eventually becoming a Security Manager with the Jacksonville Jaguars. After more than eight years in security, I transitioned into Human Resources, where I’ve spent the past five years growing my career and expanding my expertise.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Early on, one of my biggest challenges was not being able to break into my field after graduating from Florida A&M University, which forced me to pivot and rethink my path. Even once I entered the workforce through International Organization of Black Security Executives, I had to continuously prove myself in competitive and high-pressure environments.

Transitioning from security into Human Resources was another challenge—I had to rebuild my credibility, learn new systems, and establish myself in a completely different space. Throughout my journey, I’ve also faced moments where I felt overlooked or had to navigate difficult workplace dynamics, but those experiences ultimately strengthened my resilience, adaptability, and confidence in advocating for myself and others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I currently work in Human Resources with a focus on Employee Relations. My background is unique because I started in the security industry, which gave me a strong foundation in investigations, risk management, and handling complex employee situations—skills that I now bring into HR.

I specialize in full-cycle recruiting, workforce strategy, and supporting leaders through employee relations matters. I’m known for being solutions-oriented, approachable, and someone who can navigate tough conversations while still building trust across teams.

One of the things I’m most proud of is my ability to pivot and build a successful career across industries—from security into HR—while continuing to grow and take on more strategic responsibilities. I’ve also had the opportunity to support initiatives like high-volume hiring programs and diversity-focused recruiting efforts, including work with HBCUs.

What sets me apart is my blend of operational and people-focused experience. I don’t just understand HR from a policy standpoint—I understand how it impacts the business in real, day-to-day operations. That perspective allows me to partner effectively with leaders and create practical, people-centered solutions.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
One thing that might surprise people is that my career didn’t follow a traditional path at all. I didn’t start in Human Resources—I actually built my foundation in the security industry after attending a conference hosted by International Organization of Black Security Executives, which led to my first opportunity.

Because of that, a lot of the skills people see in my HR work—like handling sensitive situations, conducting investigations, and staying calm under pressure—were developed in a completely different field. I think that unconventional path has really shaped how I show up today and gives me a unique edge in how I approach people, problems, and business decisions.
