Meagan “Ducky Dynamo” Buster’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Meagan “Ducky Dynamo” Buster shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Meagan “Ducky Dynamo”, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What is a normal day like for you right now?
There IS no such thing as a “normal” day! During the days I work full-time for the Pennsylvania Avenue Black Arts and Entertainment District which keeps me tapped into what is going on within my community in places I may not see. Once I’m off, including the entire weekend, my hours can be spent in any combination of consulting, resting, DJing (either at a gig, on a radio show/stream, recording a mix, or just practicing), producing music, attending events if not planning or plotting my own, and somewhere in there, a nap or two.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a DJ, producer, activist, and culturist. Multi-hyphenate doesn’t carry enough weight! As a “brand” I am most frequently associated with the Black Baltimore independent artist scene and culture, most specifically, the Baltimore Club Music Scene, which I love and embody as my own. Because it is. I have been a part of Baltimore’s Music scene since 2006, specifically in the realm of Baltimore Club Music, but have also explored and enjoyed all its facets. I have been behind-the-scenes instrumental in Baltimore City and regional affairs spending time as part co-owner and Lead Forecaster for a city-org (including Balt City, BOPA, Bel-Air, etc) contracted company, Foot’s Forecast (which won Best Weather Blog in 2012 Baltimore City Paper’s Best of Baltimore awards, under her leadership) and spending time working for the Baltimore City Green party as Steering Committee Organizer. Beyond all of that, and most notably, I am a DJ and have been for going into 11 years – in that time I have DJ’d internationally, carrying the Baltimore Club music name, been booked locally and in other states on Festival stages, orchestrated the recent trend of Open Decks series teaching MANY DJs in the area the craft, been nominated multiple times for DJ of the year, runner up in Baltimore Magazine’s 2025 Best of Reader’s Poll for best DJ, awarded by the mayor via official proclimation and TrendSetter award on the inagural Baltimore Club Music Day — of which I was arguably instrumental in the creation of – among other elements.

And this is just the beginning.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
When I was about 4 years old, in Pre-K (or maybe Kindergarden), we all knew I loved to read everything, but on this particular day it was time for a special test! I was seated with a different teacher and she asked me to read through this book. Victory Drill Book, it was called. I did, with no problem. Some days later my parents came to class, the ‘new’ teacher did too, and along with my regular teacher, we had a meeting. Long story short, and from what my 5-year-old brain retained for me to tell this 30+ years later, I was told I was reading and comprehending on a level that exceeded those 6-9 years older than me.

That told me everything I needed to know about what I was.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Almost every day. I often joke, in times of darkness and despair, I die every night and are reborn every morning. I’m driven though by both the proof of resiliance through my experiences and journey and the hope and expectation of what the future will bring.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
Forgetting that your knowledge is clandestine and exclusive to *only you*. All of the knowledge in the world is wonderful to be able to process what is around you, however, what they do not teach you is that , more than likely, the average person you meet is NOT able to do this. It is easy to forget that what YOU know as ‘common sense’ may not be as common as you think, and not ingrained in the everyday list of accessible knowledge. Furthermore, no one, but you, has had the experiences you have had to create your perspective, but solely you. Forgetting this one small detail about the power of your own unique spirit derails even the largest of genius’ from their progress.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Seeking anything beyond ‘local’ and organic validation – the culture and the people matter more than anything else. What is organic and true and of pure good intent is the highest clout you could ever need.
