Life & Work with Vanessa Holloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Holloway.

Hi Vanessa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
How did it begin? Well, I am a full-time HealthCare worker and a double rainbow mom (Mom of 2 living children after 2 miscarriages). I’ve (apparently always had unbeknownst to me ) anxiety and ended up being diagnosed with postpartum depression after the birth of my youngest daughter. One of the therapeutic exercises I learned in dealing with depression was to create something beautiful from the not so beautiful things in life.

Around the same time, my daughter began developing eczema and irritated skin. In an effort to find natural alternatives to care for her skin, I began making soaps, body butter, and other body care items. Doing so became my therapy and I wanted to share the beautiful and successful things with the world. Thus, Jintara® was born. I really felt the things from earth really needed more attention due to their healing benefits that seem to go unnoticed.

What now? Jintara® is about more than the vanity of smooth skin. As our tagline says ” Humbly Made, Natural Loving Care “, this gets deep. BODY CARE is a form of SELF CARE. Proper self-care is important in mental and physical health. I make it my goal to collaborate and team up with like companies that focus on more than the superficial with their customers. I want to help make an impact where my skills allow. We’re just beginning to see all of what’s to come.

Vanessa Holloway Founder and Owner of Jintara ®️ which specializes in Plant-Based Body Care, Wellness, and more. Our mission is to help educate the benefits of incorporating plant-based products into your everyday life and how such products promote the necessity of self-care for better mental, physical and emotional health.

One of the core beliefs is the betterment of mental and emotional health in neglected communities. We collaborate with other businesses with a similar mission

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth– what is that! Absolutely not.

I was in the premature and planning stage of what would be Jintara® in 2019, while also being a full-time caregiver for my mother. In June of 2019, her health declined, and was hospitalized for a month. My mom died suddenly in December 2019, at home, in front of me and it shook my household and me to the core.

I think trying and needing to find nonmedicinal ways to pivot through traumatic circumstances is why good mental and emotional health are ingrained in my company’s mission–I personally know how difficult it is to keep together professionally while falling apart personally.

In regards to business- Jintara was not the original name I selected. My husband, through our marriage, would always make jokes about the concoctions I would make for my ethnic natural hair. I originally named my company Twigs, Love & Honey after our inside joke. I was later contacted by a company claiming they had a similar name, despite being in a different industry. It took many nights, conversations and texts with friends, and more to come up with something.

I always have been a tea enthusiast so the Japanese culture, had a special place in my heart. I eventually learned that Jin-Tai was Japanese wording meaning “human body”. I added some flare to it and came up with the now trademarked name Jintara® While I have yet to get any investors in Jintara®, I look forward to watching this company continue to grow financially.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I can definitely say that I had no plans of ever trying to build and run my own company, let alone a plant-based body care company.

In my other professional life, I am Coding Coordinator & RHIT at Mount Washington Pediatric Hospital. I’ve always loved working with children, especially those who need special care. Even though I do not interact on a day-to-day basis with our patients and patient’s family, it is comforting to know my work helps to behind the scenes–making it easier for their MWPH families to focus on what’s most important, each other.

Professional, I think I am most proud of the humility and balance that I maintain. As an important professional success, I have always believed that you must be successful in other areas of life such as spiritual and family matters. I thank Jehovah God for that wisdom.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
This is something I haven’t thought much about as a lot of childhood memories are reminders of trauma and pain.

One that currently sticks out is with my mom. This was when my mom was in, what some would call “the thick of it” after my household split. She battled with undiagnosed depression but at night, she would still make time to try to spark some joy at home. We used to quite literally and out of tune, belt the notes and lyrics in the book Hildegard Sings. (insert LMBO emoji).

In those 15-20 mins, no matter how tough the day was, it always made me feel “home” We would always end the night with hugs and kisses and tell each other “I love you two great big bunches”
