Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyare Hamrick.
Hi Tyare, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2015, while working in retail during a very stressful inventory I would massage people’s shoulders to make them relax. Suddenly people were telling me “you should really go to school for this. It feels amazing.” By August I was signed up for massage classes at the Baltimore School of Massage. I fell in love with massage immediately. I also had a three-year-old at the time and wanted to show him that through hard work you can achieve anything.
School took a week short of a year while working full time and going to school part-time in the evening. It was the best decision I could have made for myself career-wise.
After graduation, I took the tests to get my license. I maintained my retail job while working with friends and family until finding the location I am now. It started off very slow but as I got better and more confident in myself and my talents I started drawing in more and more clients.
I now have two children to show that you really can love what you do. I love what I do, I love to help people improve their overall wellness
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In the beginning, I wasn’t a very deep therapist, I could maintain a decent pressure but I would be exhausted after. Then Covid hit. Those 3 – 4 months that I couldn’t work I realized exactly how much I LOVE massage. I studied more, worked harder, and have tripled my clients.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I focus mainly on Swedish and deep tissue while incorporating stretching into each session. I’m proud I am able surprise the people who underestimate my size. I’m very petite but am able to do deep work. I make sure to customize each session to the client. No one is the same, a massage shouldn’t be the same for everyone.
What does success mean to you?
Success is feeling complete at the end of the day. Whether you had a full day or just one client, as long as you feel content with your work and gave your all each and every time you see success.
