Today we’d like to introduce you to Torbin Green.
Torbin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started over 12 years ago as a volunteer. I saw what was happening in the Center and I wanted to be a part of it. There was an opportunity to join and I started as an Instructor, thrown into the fire, teaching kids with IEP & 504 plans. As time went by, I moved up in the organization, working every job description, eventually becoming the Executive Director in 2022.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been up and down. The challenges of working through two Capital Campaigns and construction, staff and Board changes and hyper growth of our Organization. We were growing so fast and needed to revise our Strategic Plan and Organizational chart.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m know for getting things done and multi-tasking. With working on the day to day responsibilities of and Executive Director and managing new staff, construction and our growth, it was very stressful. By knowing every position in our Organization, it made the process just a little bit easier. By being a pioneer with planning a first ever “Smart Center” in Baltimore City, this will set us apart.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve always been great at planning events and parties. It comes easy to me and I enjoy it as well. I’m an enabler, in a good way.
