Today we’d like to introduce you to TeVaun Ferris.
TeVaun, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My first hoodie wasn’t even made by me, my sister made it for me around 2018-2019. That hoodie that was made was posted for Christmas and once it was posted everyone wanted to know where they can get one so i started selling them. It went from one hoodie to shirts to hoodies and joggers.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s never been a smooth road, I look at it like this if the road was smooth everyone in the world would be where they want to be. I’ve been in and out of the hospital since we last spoke. My business partners have been doing their thing keeping the business going from fashion shows to making new logos to keep up with the time. The most I got to put up with is being sick and missing shows and what not. Other than that I haven’t been sick lately.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m known for spreading awareness about Sickle Cell disease through my clothing brand. I’m known for speaking up for those I lost in the Sickle Cell community. I have a strong belief in helping others that’s in my situation that feel like they don’t have a way to keep going.
I got me a strong foundation around me from family members to my business partners that help me and keep me grounded and motivated me to keep going. I’m mostly proud that people recognize my work in the community. SickerThanTheRest specializes in being a clothing brand that’s bringing awareness to Black communities through out Baltimore. What we do as far as helping the community grow and understand how Sickle Cell disease affects the African communities separate us from everyone one else
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
As a kid I felt like I had a normal childhood, beside from being sick on a island where the hospital are not equipped to handle Sickle Cell, I was a normal child getting into trouble the normal fights at school but I was very into sports playing basketball all day, riding bikes up and down the street. Playing baseball too. Anything to do with sports I was good at except football lol
Personality wise I’ve always been a curious kid.. use to watch everything that was going on in my environment and soak it up take it in so I know how to adopt in any environment.
