Today we’d like to introduce you to Shontae Smith.
Shontae, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
In 2019, I wrote a book titled This Little Black Girl: I Am Enough. It was inspired by my personal journey of struggling with low self-esteem and self-worth, which led to challenges such as not understanding my purpose and dealing with undiagnosed self-induced vomiting. Through that process, I began to heal, overcome those struggles, and step into my purpose.
A few months later, I released my second book, Fear Not: For You Have Been Called: Evolving from a Caterpillar to a Butterfly. This book reflects my spiritual growth and transformation, as I began to fully walk in who God called me to be—an intercessor, prophet, and preacher.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not! Here are some of my struggles: Low- self worth, Low self esteem, undiagnosed eating disorder.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I believe I bring a unique blend of experience and purpose to everything I do. I have been married for 24 years to Damon Smith, MD, and we have three grown children. I am a registered nurse and the co-founder, alongside my husband, of Trusted Hearts Home Care Solutions, where we have provided care to the fragile and elderly population for over 13 years. I am also the founder of the Prophetic Scrubs Brand. Additionally, I wrote a training manual and workbook titled Prophetic Shaking.
In addition to my professional work, I serve in ministry with my husband through Trailblazers Global. Together, we host marriage retreats for couples, lead the Trailblazers Summit, and co-host the Richer or Poorer Marriage Podcast. I also host the HERWORTH Retreat, which is designed to empower and uplift women.
Furthermore, I am a mentor who trains and equips prophets to understand and walk confidently in their gifts through the I Am Enough Prophets Mentorship. These are just a few of the many ways I serve and impact others.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I believe that mentors are essential for growth and purpose. I am blessed to have three mentors who each pour into and help shape what God has called me to do. I strongly believe that everyone should have a mentor to guide and support their journey.
When it comes to having a mentor, I encourage people to be intentional. Do not just look for someone with a title, but look for someone whose life, character, and fruit align with where you believe God is calling you to grow.
Be open to learning, correction, and guidance. A mentor is not just there to affirm you, but to challenge you and help you become better. You must also be willing to do the work, as mentorship requires humility, consistency, and a teachable spirit.
It is important to understand that one mentor may not fulfill every area of your life, which is why having more than one mentor can be beneficial. Different mentors can pour into different areas such as spiritual growth, personal development, and professional development.
Lastly, value the relationship. Respect your mentor’s time, apply what they teach you, and remain committed to your growth. Mentorship is a partnership that can truly help you walk fully in your purpose.
