Today we’d like to introduce you to Qway Sharp.
Hi Qway, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Qway, I’m 25 years old from Northern Virginia. Photography has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I’ve always loved taking pictures and videos; I used to make skits with my Dad back in elementary school. I used to get little cameras for Christmas, so taking photos and gatekeeping memories has always been my thing. During my junior year of high school, my Dad bought me my first DSLR, and I started taking pictures of my brother at his basketball games. It got around, and other people at school started asking for photos, and things went from there. I took senior prom pictures and found my portrait and event photography niche. Consistency has been the main factor in how heavy or slow business is for me, and throughout the years, I’d lose a little passion for it but always found my way back
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been the smoothest but it’s definitely been rewarding and worth it. Being an artist, things can feel overwhelming, especially when you feel like your passion has become more of a job. But for me, finding ways to create and shoot my ideas outside of the things I’m being booked for have helped me keep it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a photographer that specializes in portrait photography. I have a sharp eye and pay close attention to detail. Neat, clean, and natural photos set me apart from others. I’m most proud that I put my heart into all of my work, taking my time always to remain a student and be open to learning new things.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family deserves credit for helping me get to where I am now. My Dad and Mom have been my biggest supporters for advice on how to run my business – not cutting corners, knowing my value and standing on it, and making sure I always stay professional and keep a business mindset first. My brothers always push me to stay motivated and continue to work hard. Without their advice and guidance, managing my business would be almost impossible, especially in the face of adversity.
