Life & Work with Quon Wilson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quon Wilson.

Hi Quon, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?

I created Quon’s Eyes in the middle of my bedroom, in the middle of a failing marriage — a major blow to one’s self-confidence!

All I can remember of that time is desperately wanting to regain my self-confidence again. I found solace in my life-long passion for beauty, and I began making my own false eyelashes. I remember one thing very clearly from that time — I found it hard to be sad in a gorgeous pair of lashes.

From that point on, I became even more passionate about beauty and the beauty of all women. I created my brand to remind women and men of the power they possess within their unique beauty. In a world with so many voices and ever-changing definitions of beauty, if you don’t know who you are and what you possess, it’s easy to forget just how incredible you are. Every woman and every man deserves the ability to define their own beauty and the freedom to live in it.

Through Quon’s Eyes, I set out to create head-turning products to inspire people not just to own their beauty but command it! I want you to unapologetically command the room with your unique beauty — never compromising in the freedom of simply being who you were created to be.

I translated this sentiment and my love for beauty into every product I created and took my creations out into the community. I signed up to showcase and sell my products at various events in town. Inspired by the positive response, I searched for ways to elevate what I was doing, which led me to create our lash bar & beauty bar pop-up events.

My pop-up events allowed me to connect with people, share my love for beauty, and help others find the right beauty products to enhance their unique beauty. Following that joy, I searched for a greater way to reach others to share my passion for beauty, so I became a beauty contributor and began providing beauty content to news stations in the Washington, DC market.

From there, I began hosting beauty pop-ups at Bloomingdale’s in Chevy Chase. From that experience, I was invited to host a lash bar for VIP clientele of the Washingtonian Magazine’s Best of Washington Party. Each pop-up event turned into my next opportunity. I later caught the attention of Essence Magazine, which led to Essence Magainze’s Shop Essence platform selling a few of our products. Shortly after that, I was contacted by Amazon’s Black Business Accelerator to join their program. Our products recently launched on Amazon this summer, so I am very excited to see where the road ahead will take us.

Behind every lash and beauty product that I create, my deepest desire is to help people enhance, expand, redefine, and celebrate their beauty! I know firsthand that how you feel about yourself determines what you will attract in your life and sets the tone for how others will treat you. I want to help remind women and men that you are more than enough and you can reach your highest potential. My greatest hope is that my products will show forth your inner beauty outwardly and empower you to recognize your greatest level of confidence to pursue your most ambitious dreams and command the room, period!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

It has not been a smooth road, but I don’t believe life is meant to be smooth all of the time; otherwise, we would never grow. There truly is beauty in adversity, but we must allow adversity to strengthen us.

Through my experiences, some of the most incredible opportunities for my business came at times of personal turmoil. Opportunities don’t wait to show up when life is perfect. We have to be able to pivot and press forward despite the challenges life may present. My best friend would always tell me, “if you let the bad defeat you, you won’t be here to see the good.” These life lessons inspired me to begin my business, and they have influenced our brand tremendously.

Quon’s Eyes is about so much more than beautiful lashes and beautiful skin. It’s about taking on a beautiful mindset that will allow you to recognize that every day will not be beautiful, but there is still beauty in every day because of you! Our brand is about putting your best face forward, one lash at a time, and boldly going forth to command any room that life may place you in that you may achieve your most ambitious dreams!

During this process, I’ve learned that we must hold tight to those things that naturally spark joy for us and follow them to the end. It doesn’t matter if even those closest to you don’t agree or understand your pursuits. You never know where your God-given gifts will lead you, but it is your responsibility to find out.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?

Thank you so much!

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?

I have so many unforgettable memories from my childhood. I grew up with my dad, mom, and younger sister; our house was filled with so much love, and there was never a dull moment!

As a child, beauty was always a big part of who I was. I have loved the world of beauty since I was very young. I was known to raid a purse or two in search of lipstick as a little one. My first official makeup kit was a Tinkerbell pressed powder and hot pink lipstick duo from Kids “R” Us. I was about seven at that time, and I still remember that trip to Kids “R” Us with my mom to this day.

As a young teenager, every time I had allowance money, I would beg my mom to take me to the Cosmetic Store; every trip sparked immense joy for me. I did not know how, but I knew I wanted to do something within the world of beauty when I grew up. My passion for beauty really grew when I was 16 years old, and my aunt Cheri gave me my first tube of MAC Oh Baby lip gloss…it was game over. I have been following my love for beauty every since!
