Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwaseyi Samson.
Hi Oluwaseyi , it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Oluwaseyi Samson, formerly known as Ynl Sam, but today I’m known as EVO — Evangelist Oluwaseyi. I am an evangelist of the gospel, dedicated to preaching Jesus and taking him to all the nations of the world.
My journey with music started long before I understood what a calling was. Growing up in Lagos, Nigeria, my mom would buy me drums as early as three years old because I would play them for hours until I literally tore the skins. By five, I was already singing.
As I grew up, music became more than something I enjoyed. I began leading worship and playing drums in church, and eventually became a band leader in high school, sometimes leading people older than me. Looking back, I realize those moments were building something in me.
When I moved from Nigeria to America, the environment changed, but my passion didn’t. I became even more intentional—learning piano, producing music, working on my vocals, and spending hours practicing and developing the gifts God had given me.
I’ve always believed there was more inside of me, and even now, I’m still discovering what God has placed in me. When I look back at the little boy beating on those drums in Lagos, I can see that every practice, every transition, and every season was preparing me for this moment. I currently have a ministry called Flyguys, we are dedicated to giving back to the community in as little or big as we can.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
it has not been a smooth road, there were times where I had burn outs due to having so much things planned and trying to execute all at the same time but those days built me to handle heavy situations and to be responsible. I also remember when I switched my style of music, I started to see drastic drop in support but I had to follow the vision and plan of God for my life and not what some people wanted to hear. but I’m glad that today I have people who are interested in the sound I put out.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer, songwriter, producer and minister of the gospel in sound. I am known for singing songs that encourage people, empower and draw people to God. I’m most proud of how our songs travel from Baltimore to around the world. What sets me apart from others is my consistency and passion, we release atleast 2 songs every month, giving people new songs to dance to, sing to and worship God with.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have a lot of mentors and people that deserves recognition, first will be my parents for how they raised me and disciplined me and for allowing me to do music even tho it looked like it wasn’t the best idea at the time. I will also like to recognize my siblings for all their help and support, for sponsoring some of my trips, I’m so happy God gave me a wonderful family. I really want to appreciate my manager (Oluomachi Ekeagwu) for always cheering me on and keeping me accountable and helping me to prioritize the right thing at the right time.
