Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Taylor.
Hi Olivia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started out performing in the 4th grade as an actress for plays. I began singing in choirs in high school. In my senior year, I joined Washington Performing Arts’ Children of the Gospel choir, where we performed at many prestigious events such as: the Kennedy Center and Constitutional Hall. In 2018, I finally heeded my family and friends’ pleas and released my first single, “Not Perfect” on all streaming platforms. That’s how my music career began.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been the smoothest road. After my first single release, I had to put my music on the back-burner for some years to focus on finishing college. Once I returned to the music scene in 2021, I realized just how divisive the artists and creatives were in the area. Sadly most people want to make and be the ONLY one that makes it into the industry. However, in 2023, my entire trajectory changed. I was offered my first major gig, performing my music live on national TV. I performed my single “Options” live on WUSA’:s Great Day Washington. The gigs have been rolling in ever since.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My artist name LIVe (liv-ee) and I’m a full-time recording artist and songwriter for lease from the DMV area, born and raised. I was recently featured for my music on WUSA 9 and was asked to perform for 93.9 WKYS’ 2nd Annual Women’s Empowerment Brunch at the Bethesda Theater alongside Bobbi Storm. Afterwards, I was interviewed live on-air by Lady Reddz. My 95.5 WPGC interview with DJ Reddz, will be aired on Nov. 16th. On December 7th, I’ll be interviewed live on-air by DJ Ro on Atlanta’s party station, 94.7TheLink. What I believe sets my music apart from others is how deeply I submerge my listeners into connecting with the lyrics emotionally.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was always interested in music and acting. I would always sing around the house and truly enjoyed me and my mom’s mini car concerts. One day, my mom heard me singing while playing video games and she asked me whose song I was singing because it sounded really good. I told her that it wasn’t in existence yet because I was simply singing from my heart/free-styling while enjoying one of my favorite past-times. She immediately began encouraging me to go to the studio and record.
