Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella Fulmore.
Hi Marcella, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Marcella grew up in an athletic family and played sports throughout middle and high school. After earning her undergraduate and master’s degrees in social work from Norfolk State University, she began working in an educational setting as a school social worker. Being diagnosed with high blood pressure at the age of 32 served as a transformative moment in Marcella’s life. Recognizing the significant impact that exercise and proper nutrition can have on managing blood pressure, she decided to help others achieve their health and fitness goals. Marcella developed YOUnique Fitness to reduce the health disparities for people of color while supporting all clients on their journey to optimal health and wellness.
Marcella knew her clinical skills as a social worker would pair well with her passion as a fitness trainer. Social workers help others to navigate the obstacles in their lives that hinder them from achieving a sense of well-being. As a trainer, Marcella has the same goal for her clients providing a holistic approach to wellness.
For nearly 20 years, Marcella has run her own business as an independent professional wellness trainer, supporting clients individually and in groups. She is certified through the International Sports Conditioning Association (ISCA). She has acquired additional certifications and training in Boot Camp Conditioning, High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Core and Glute Development, Cardio Kickboxing, Insanity Fitness, Cage Fitness, PiYO (pilates/yoga mix), Exercise through Menopause, Integrating Trauma-Informed Yoga into Mental Health Clinical Practices, and other weight management programs.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Finding the right formula between Marcella’s role as a school social worker, wife, parent, and an entrepreneur is challenging at times. When her children were young the right balance involved learning how to incorporate her children into her own fitness time, training clients while the children were in their activities, and training out of a gym that provided childcare. Her husband is her most reliable supporter. They fully partnered responsibilities with the children, the home, and he gave her the space to grow her business throughout the years.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
