Life & Work with Keyon Mrrockoff Johnson of East

Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyon Mrrockoff Johnson.

Hi Keyon Mrrockoff, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
I have always been fascinated with entertainment and changing lives while I do it. I started singing and dancing in church when a friend showed me Baltimore club dancing one day, and I was hooked. I used an old camera that was a gift from my parents to help me practice because we didn’t have a mirror for me to see how I looked. I filmed so much that the friend who introduced me to rocking off told me I should upload the videos to YouTube. That was in 2008, but that seed started to grow the tree that is my YouTube channel now. The cars and racing came as I started driving. I’ve always had a love for cars and racing. When I started modifying my first car, I also decided to upload that video, even though, at the time, my channel was predominantly dancing. The video blew up in views, so I started filming more. Now I have a record-holding race car with a racing team called Less Talk More Race (LTMR), full of great people. We host events and partake in various other shows, including the Maryland Motor Trend Auto Show. We’re still growing, and the journey hasn’t been easy, but we’ve changed many lives through our work and outreach by encouraging people to pursue their own Race in life. I truly love what I do and wouldn’t change it for the world.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
It hasn’t been smooth at all. Between deaths of important people, financial strife, and some lost opportunities due to broken cars and honestly broken spirits, it’s been rough. At the same time, it’s bound to happen when you’re pursuing what you love while helping people. Being an entrepreneur isn’t for the weak, but I’m blessed to have such a great team who help whenever I need to—many times, even when I don’t directly ask for it.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in filmmaking and bringing the audience with us as we travel to various events while also showing the process. I am most proud of the team we’ve built and the opportunity to be in the motor trend show. As a kid, I remember being in awe of the various cars being built and modified, dreaming of the day I could do it myself. Now I’m being the very inspiration that started my passion, and through filming, anyone can see the entire process of where we’ve been and where we’re going. The thing that sets us apart from everyone one else is not only our mission and how we execute it. It’s how we incorporate dance, automotive, wildlife, music, comedy, and education into our projects. We are not a one-trick pony kind of brand like others. We truly take who we are and transform it into entertainment that makes you laugh and pushes you as the watcher to pursue your dreams no matter where you are in life. That is what “Less Talk More Race” is about.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those just starting?
If you are starting your journey in pursuing your dreams, the key is to stay consistent and do what they say you can’t, which means when people try to tell you that you can’t do this and that because of race, size, age, background or financial situation do it anyway. If it makes you happy and you have a genuine love/passion for whatever it is, ignore them and do it. The road will get rough, and things do happen, but so long as you persevere through it and so long as you build a solid team with the same positive mindset, you can achieve your goals. Start the journey. God will match you 1000%.
