Today, we’d like to introduce you to Ken “Tsunami” Shep.

Ken “Tsunami” Shep

Hi Ken, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
In my journey as an artist, creativity has always been my guiding force. From childhood, my father’s advice to “draw what I see” shaped my artistic vision, leading me to create literal and figurative representations of my surroundings.

My professional path began in the world of fashion design, where my streetwear line gained recognition, eventually gracing the runways of New York Fashion Week, sponsored by none other than Doc Martens. As my career evolved, I transitioned into commercial art, where I’ve strived to achieve the essence of what I’ve always envisioned my art to be.

Continuously challenging myself to explore traditional and innovative tools and techniques, I’ve embraced a multidimensional approach to my craft.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
In my experience, nothing worth achieving ever comes without its share of challenges. However, amidst the trials and tribulations, one thing has remained steadfast: my unwavering sense of self, direction, and artistic vision.

From the outset, I’ve been crystal clear about who I am, where I’m headed, and the message I aim to convey through my art. If there’s been a struggle, it’s been in finding my tribe—the individuals who wholeheartedly embrace the journey alongside me, devoid of hesitations or preconceived notions.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
As an Afro-Cuban artist, my work is fueled by an unyielding desire for discovery and expression, transcending conventional boundaries.

Moving fluidly across various mediums, from the ethereal realms of digital art to the tactile allure of metalwork, acrylics, and oils, I find freedom in experimentation. Drawing inspiration from spirituality, futurism, science fiction, and metaphysics, I weave a tapestry of diverse themes into my creations, often delving into the depths of human anatomy for profound exploration.

My recent series, “Black Ballet,” garnered international acclaim at the prestigious 2023 London Art Biennale, cementing my status as a pioneer in contemporary art. Renowned figures such as Kanye West, Cardi B, Rick Ross, and Dawn Richards have been captivated by my transcendent works, which seamlessly blend pop culture with fine art. Collaborations with industry leaders like Disguise Systems for Disney’s Mandalorian and designer Oscar Utierre, featured in Vogue, further highlight my influence at the intersection of art, fashion, and entertainment.

In reflective moments, I find solace in believing that “Everything is Art.” This conviction serves as a guiding principle, reminding me of the inherent creative power within each individual. Through my boundless creativity, I aspire to inspire others to embrace the divine essence within themselves and the limitless possibilities of artistic expression.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Patience is key in every aspect of life.

Whether waiting for your beliefs to manifest or anticipating a personal or professional transition, aligning yourself with your desires is essential. Stay prepared for the changes ahead, ready to embrace them when they arrive.
