Today we’d like to introduce you to Kausha Wells.
Hi Kausha, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
For some time, I have thought about becoming an entrepreneur. During the shut-in time of the pandemic, I decided to start making my own 100% natural hair and body butters.
In part, it was due to my desire to start using natural skin and hair care products. I needed a product to help with my dry skin and scalp, and help my skin look and smell good too!
I was tired of all the harsh chemicals found in the products that I had been using, so I decided to create my own safe, moisturizing and natural product.
After researching the benefits of natural products, I moved forward in making the butter for myself. It was then that I realized that not only did I enjoy creating them, but I also knew that others could benefit from them as well. That’s when KBlessd Butters was born!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In every business, there are struggles and challenges.
I learned early on to make sure that my inventory is stocked because it’s not fun to receive a large order for a fragrance that I ran out of! As I have been marketing more and getting my name out there, I have had to hire a Social Media Manager, which has helped tremendously, as well as an employee to assist in making the butter and helping with the back end of the business.
The struggle is learning what works and what doesn’t. I recently went through a period of feeling lost, stressed, and overwhelmed. I’m a perfectionist and if things aren’t done in the way that I feel that they should be, then I will do it myself, which meant that I didn’t trust my team enough to make decisions.
Therefore, I had to stop all social media marketing and put a halt to everything, including emails to my subscribers, researching–everything–and praying for guidance from God and what He has for me with KBlessd Butters.
Although I didn’t close my site down and am still receiving orders, and being a part of a select few pop-ups, this has allowed me to take some time for myself, regroup and hear from God. Honestly, I’m still in that season, but I know that I’m in this position for a reason and will come back with a better direction.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been a Business Developer for over 15 years and am pretty much a high-end Sales Professional.
I sell a service for one of the largest landscape companies in the nation and have made Presidents Club selling over $2million dollars over 6 times collectively. In turn, the company sends me on an all-expense-paid vacation out of the country. I love working with people and solving people’s problems, thus the birth of KBlessd Butters.
I have 3 children: A 23-year-old son who graduated from Bowie State University and became a husband on December 1st, a 31-year-old daughter who is the manager of a call center, and a 13 year old 4 legged Miniature Pinscher.
I love spending time with my family and boyfriend, going fishing, watching movies, playing Call of Duty on the Xbox, playing board games, roller skating, and swimming. What sets me apart from others is my passion, honesty, and love of life! I love to laugh and have fun, but I’m also very honest.
One thing that my friends say about me is that I will never lie to them!
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always curious and interested in learning why things happen, why people are the way that they are, and why they do the things that they do. I’m a deep thinker and can usually “feel” things about people or situations. My mother would say that I’m “inquisitive. ” Although I’m very stubborn, I have learned to be more open and not so reactive.
We use to go camping a lot! I mean, “roughing it” camping! We would sleep in tents, my Mom would cook on the fire with the steel skillet, we would fish, go on hikes, sit by the fire and sing, and even ride on 4 wheels!
My mom made sure that my brother and I were well taken care of and would take us on vacations every year out of the country to different islands and even around other states. She was very intentional to ensure that we would see as much of the world as possible.
I’m thankful for that because it allowed us to learn about others.
