Life & Work with K Simone Walsh

Today we’d like to introduce you to K Simone Walsh.

Hi K, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For a lot of us the pandemic, last year was devastating and brought a lot of loss and depression. For me, it helped to propel a new journey of self-love, pursue hobbies and interests I’ve always wanted to try. At the beginning on 2020, I decided it’s time to tackle having a healthy lifestyle, I loss a total of 60lbs. Losing this weight gave me confidence to put myself in front of the camera. Being a model was something I’ve always wanted to do, but never felt I was the right size or height I pushed past my fears with the help of one of my high school friends @Shotsfiredbysir who did my first photoshoot. After this photoshoot I became my daughter’s muse, @girlwittacamera whom is currently a student at Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). We started doing our own photoshoots in DC, PG county & Baltimore. I’m dedicated to helping her pursue her passion of being a photographer. We collaborate on ideas and look for locations to create art. One the benefits of losing weight is you need a new wardrobe, I decided to thrift to save money., now 50% my content on Instagram is about my thrifted finds from Goodwill. I love showing tips, 75% of my wardrobe consist of items I’ve thrifted. I’m continuously trying to evolve, body positivity and self-love is now the primary focus, I struggled with low self-esteem for years, my hope is to encourage someone to be their authentic self.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Overall, the journey has been smooth, the challenge is creating new ideas and concepts for photoshoots and thrifting reels. The market is saturated with models and content creators, but I believe there is room at the table for everyone to find their lane.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have a regular 9-5 in the banking industry, I love what I do during the day, helping people in any capacity is what I love to do. Modeling and creating content is my passion/hobby, I’ve used my social media presence to promote friends and family small businesses as well. What I’m most proud of is making connections, promoting and encouraging others to follow their passion.

What matters most to you?
For me it’s not about how many people follow me, it’s about the connections and the impact that I’ve made. I voluntarily promote @dcgoodwill because of what they do for the community. Shopping, donating, and getting others to shop there is one of the ways I give back. I also support and promote a non-profit called @petalshare that recycles flowers. I like to be an anonymous Philanthropist. Giving back matters most to me, whether it’s time, money or just sharing on Instagram.
