Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Danburry
Hi Drew, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was raised Mormon, on the West Coast, though Mormon no longer. I’ve lived and traveled all over mostly due to music. A few years ago, I got divorced in the middle of a housing crisis. There was literally no vacancy anywhere in the town where I was living. I had a friend out here, Josh Baer, who offered a place to stay and connected me with a job. It felt right. I packed up my car, left my wife and son in Utah and drove across the country to Baltimore.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think everybody struggles. Everyone. It’s what connects us all. The fascinating thing to me, about getting divorced was how unoriginal it was. It felt personal, but every aspect of it objectively fit everyone else’s story that I’ve come across.
It’s such a similar story for nearly everyone, the details are a little different, but everyone deals with heartbreak. Everyone deals with duplicity. Everyone deals with people who doesn’t treat others the way they want to be treated. It’s universal.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a barber, primarily, at Old Bank Barbers in Hampden.
In my spare time I’m a Songwriter/Musician. Filmmaker/Photographer/Animator. Skateboarder. Etc
I do a lot of different things.
What makes you happy?
Being creative with others and connecting with others in general.
Creativity is an extremely productive form of self-therapy.
Drawing and writing songs is extremely cathartic. Doing it in a group situation multiplies that catharsis and connection.
