Life & Work with Diya Shakoor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diya Shakoor.

Hi Diya, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hello, my name is Diya Shakoor.

I am a retired Army warrant officer and I am an author and CEO of Hard 2 Oppose Publishing. I started writing poetry, music, and short stories in the late 90s.

I had told myself for many years that I was going to write a book.

In 2020, during the Coronavirus shutdown, I sat down and started writing my first published book The Grand Scheme of Life (A Bammas Journey) and I followed it with Betrayal of The Black Bastard.

After completing those projects I continued to write. I eventually completed seven books and I have two released currently. My next book As I Stand Corrected released on August 12, 2022.

Since things have opened back up, I have been to numerous events sharing my story and doing book signings.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has definitely been rough. There are times when writer’s block sets in. The distractions of outside being open again and relocating to the DMV have also been setbacks but I push thru and keep going.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Besides being an author, I am a Quality Control Manager. The job keeps me busy but it doesn’t take away from what I’m trying to accomplish.

What sets me apart being an author is the concepts of my books, my drive, and my ability to bring fictional stories and characters to life. One of my proudest moments here in recent years is publishing books.

What makes you happy?
What makes me happy is my sons! They are the reason I keep going hard.

I also like seeing the reactions and smiles on readers’ faces after reading my books. I also like the fact that there are so many black readers, that is a lost hobby in our community.
