Today we’d like to introduce you to Dee Brookshire.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I spent 26 years in hospitality and had the opportunity to serve in several leadership roles, including Front Office Manager, Revenue Manager, Senior Sales Manager, and Vice President of Sales & Marketing.
Those experiences gave me a well-rounded perspective on how revenue, sales, operations, marketing, and the guest experience all work together to create a successful business.
In 2019, while I was still in corporate hospitality, I started Pink Leaf Consulting. Two years later, I left corporate to focus on the business full-time.
As my business evolved, so did the work I was most passionate about. Today, Pink Leaf Hospitality is a division of Pink Leaf Consulting that serves boutique hotels, cafés, bed & breakfasts, restaurants, and other hospitality and experience-driven businesses.
I advise owners and operators on how to optimize the way revenue is created, curated, and sustained in their business. For me, that means looking beyond revenue alone and understanding how guest experience, operations, marketing, and leadership all work together to support long-term business performance.
Every role I held prepared me for the work I do today. It gave me the opportunity to see the business from multiple perspectives, and now I get to bring that experience alongside owners as they build businesses that are both profitable and memorable.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I think that’s true for most entrepreneurs.
One of my biggest transitions was moving from leading sales and marketing for established hospitality brands to building a brand of my own. During my corporate career, I was marketing businesses with existing brand recognition, resources, and teams. Entrepreneurship required me to take the same sales and marketing principles I had used for years and apply them in a completely different way. Instead of marketing a hotel or hospitality brand, I was learning how to position myself, communicate my value, and build trust one relationship at a time.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in helping owners and operators optimize how revenue is created, curated, and sustained in their businesses. My work centers around the connection between revenue, guest experience, operations, and marketing, because those areas do not operate independently. The decisions a business makes in one area directly impact the others.
What sets my work apart is the way I approach business challenges. I do not believe in jumping into solutions before understanding the full picture. I ask questions, look for patterns, review data, and help owners identify what is truly impacting performance before deciding what needs to change.
I help business owners see their businesses differently. Often, what appears to be a revenue issue may actually be connected to the customer journey, operations, or the business’s market positioning. My role is to help owners identify those connections and make more intentional decisions.
I am most proud of is the trust my repeat clients place in me. They continue to bring me into important conversations about their businesses because they value having someone who can see the bigger picture, challenge their thinking, ask the questions they may not be asking, and help them move forward with clarity.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love most about Baltimore is the sense of connection, the culture, the arts, and the heartbeat of the city. There is something special about the way people create, gather, and build community here.
I actually fell in love with Baltimore when I visited Morgan State University on a college tour in the 90s. I stood on the footbridge and knew this would be home. Although Morgan did not end up being my university of choice, after graduation I moved to Maryland, just like I said I would that day.
What I like least is that sometimes the challenges of the city overshadow the incredible things happening every day. There are so many talented business owners, artists, and community leaders creating meaningful experiences that deserve to be recognized and supported.
