Today we’d like to introduce you to DaFineIII.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
DaFineIII didn’t start in a studio — it started with a phone call.
We’re three solo artists from three different cities: MiAngel from Chicago, YaYa from Kansas City, and Shay B. from Annapolis. Each of us was already deep in our own musical journey, individually working with producer and music director DJ ‘MLiK’ Moore — but none of us knew the others existed.
MiAngel and Shay B. had come up under MLiK as interns — MiAngel through her time at the prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts, and Shay B. through APEX Arts. YaYa’s connection was a little more personal — her mother attended Oakwood University with MLiK, and knew exactly who to call when her daughter’s talent needed the right home.
Then one day, MLiK picked up the phone — three times. He had a vision, and he wanted to know if we’d be a part of it. Three cities. Three voices. Three “yes’s.” And just like that, on that very first call together, DaFineIII was born.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Smooth? Not even close — and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
Before DaFineIII, there’s just life. And life has a way of keeping things interesting. At 23, 22, and 19, we’re three young women still figuring out this whole “adulting” thing — but doing it independently, on our own terms. And as MLiK always reminds us, the fact that three women with three completely different personalities have come together the way we have? That’s not chemistry — that’s a blessing. We’ve genuinely become sisters.
But if there’s one obstacle that never lets up, it’s distance. We’re not down the street from each other — we’re spread across the country. Getting all three of us in the same room means coordinating flights, hotels, Airbnbs, rental cars… the whole thing. It’s a lot. But honestly? That’s exactly why we stay motivated. As we like to say — that’s why we’re “Getting Money Fast” (fist single plug!).
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At the core, we are singers, songwriters, models, and actresses — and we’re just getting started.
Music is where our story began, but it’s far from the whole story. Outside of the studio, all three of us are actively building our modeling résumés, turning heads and expanding our presence in the fashion world. This September, Shay B. and YaYa will both be hitting the runway at The Model Experience during New York Fashion Week — and trust us, MiAngel isn’t far behind. On the film side, all three of us have been cast in and are working on upcoming independent films that we can’t quite name just yet — but stay tuned, because the screen isn’t ready for us.
What are we most proud of? Honestly — each other. We’re proud of what we’ve built as DaFineIII, but we’re equally proud of what each of us is building individually. Watching your sister win never gets old.
And what sets us apart? That’s easy. Most groups have history — they grew up together, went to school together, share the same bloodline. We didn’t have any of that. We were handpicked. Three strangers from three different cities, called together by one vision. The bond we’ve built isn’t something that just happened — we chose it, we fought for it, and we forged it through the fire.
We didn’t just form a group. We became a family. We are DaFineIII.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
One word: Fortitude.
If this journey has taught us anything, it’s that you have to keep going — even when it’s hard, even when it’s uncomfortable, even when the distance feels like more than just miles. Never giving up. Not on the dream, not on the work, and most importantly — not on each other.
That’s the foundation DaFineIII is built on. Not just talent. Not just ambition. But an unshakeable commitment to push through whatever comes our way — together.
