Today we’d like to introduce you to Candace McCrae.
Hi Candace, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I baked cakes with my grandmothers. My grandmother Geraldine baked and decorated beautiful wedding cakes and would let me help. She also baked custom cakes for my birthday celebrations; I also baked with my grandmother Barbara. Our favorite was red velvet, now Sweet Kiss’s top-selling cupcake. Every year, we would get together to bake my red velvet birthday cake! My grandmother passed down tasty recipes and lots of love! I enjoy baking with my daughter Brie, who is mommy’s sweet kiss. I have always enjoyed baking and decided to turn my passion into a profit. It began with baking for family functions; my relatives would fight over the last cupcake crumb. I sat back and laughed at my crazy clan for a few years until my loving grandmothers encouraged me to stop laughing and start selling! I took a few culinary courses, obtained my business license, and things took off.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am a full-time mom, employee, and entrepreneur, so things get a little hectic sometimes, but my passion keeps me going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Relationships are vital to the success of any business. People who like you and your product or service are more willing to help! Finding a good mentor is key, and I have been extremely fortunate to have great business mentors. I met some of my mentors by attending networking events and telling anyone who would listen about my company. I would also gather contact information, reach out, and deliver cupcakes to potential mentors to establish a relationship.
